I'm not sure what you think your point is here, but that's kind of the issue. Presenting trans characters poorly to non-trans people is part of the problem? Like surely you can understand the idea of bad representation? Also with so little trans-inclusive / trans-positive media it feels rather lovely to tell trans people to gently caress off for being unhappy with a piece of media representing a trans person poorly.

So here's a thing that's noodling around in my brain, and trying to come at it as the Token Cis in many LGBT+ circles. Outside of the very valid problems people have with it, York being like this literally adds nothing to the game. It's kind of tasteless and lazy and does not really do anything for either the game's sake or for the sake of trans representation. If Swery really wants to chime in that this is "how York is" there are about a million ways to do it without using something as modern and lovely as someone purposefully deadnaming to refer to someone as they "formerly" were pre-coming out as trans, which, as pointed out, is extremely lovely! If the point is supposed to be "York has a person's best interests at heart but is a lovely person", then there are way better ways to depict that without stepping on this issue.

York in 2 in general is a much bigger rear end in a top hat than he was in 1 imo. Like the worst he did in 1 is go on weird tangents at inappropriate times. In 1 he was a guy that just genuinely enjoyed movies and wanted to share that joy with others, but in 2 he's a film snob that belittles people that don't know obscure movie trivia like he does, or insults other people's tastes in movies. At times it comes off as more a Deadly Premonition fangame than an actual sequel. I suspect that DP2 may have a lot of elements recycled from some of Swery's ideas for later episodes of D4. The lead in that game acted more in line with how York does in 2, and some of the NPCs are over-the-top weird in a way that matches the tone of D4, rather than the NPCs in 1 which were just mildly quirky but otherwise normal folks.

So uhhh maybe I missed something but the dead naming stuff is only still in the part before you find out the trans character is trans and that their Dead Name refers to them before their transition. Before then you think the 2 names refer to 2 different people. Did I remotely word that right?
