the mainland is kind of a cultural wasteland post-90s, it's just the blandest most repetitive poo poo imaginable. I think Zhang Yimou's Hero is partly to blame, it showed you can have a scarily pro-authoritarian movie and just hide it with some production values (lol hollywood) and get universally praised. The east bloc had lots of good stuff with Tarkovski, Forman and Parajanov so being authoritarian doesn't have to mean poo poo culture the tall lesbians comic is ok but I stopped reading it after I realized it's also stifled by obvious self-censorship https://mangadex.org/title/13939/tamen-de-gushi Vesi fucked around with this message at 10:19 on Jul 27, 2020 |

On this, and this is probably an insanely stupid naive question. Can one have a HK passport and a Chinese passport? Similar question with Macau. Also given their is the BNO stuff with the UK, (as HK used to belong to the UK), is there a similar sort of thing with Portugal and Macau citizens? Coz as far as my limited knowledge goes, Macau used to be Portugese.

BrigadierSensible posted:On this, and this is probably an insanely stupid naive question. Yes, sort of. HK passport is considered Chinese by China. Everyone else treats it as a HK passport. Now that the firewall is gone, well you get the idea. Porfiriato posted:It's also super lol as an empty threat because anyone emigrating from Hong Kong would just leave on their HK passport and enter the UK on their BN(O) passport, so China would never even have a chance to involve itself with the BN(O). Not that simple. I obviously would leave NZ with a NZ passport. I can enter HK either with the NZ passport or HKID. Both valid methods of entry. I can't leave NZ with HKID as that is not a passport. There is a catch. Every country has some form of exit ban/blacklist/alert and entry ban(Invalid visa) no matter what kind of document you have to prevent criminals dashing overseas, no objections under normal circumstances, but HK isn't normal. Its the reason why the UK has stated (Paraphrased )"We are open to them but there is nothing we can do if China stops them from leaving". I have no doubt Joshua Wong, Agnes Chow etc are on that blacklist. Why Nathan Law fled before it came into effect. Like the TSA No Fly list you don't know you are on it until you try to leave. Like journalist from Western outlet or the press club I can be denied entry if I use NZ passport because reasons. I can't be denied if I use HKID but treated differently if asserted for example than if I used NZ passport. It will look weird but I can exit with NZ passport even if I use HKID entry. It's going to get weird as some people will have roll dice to leave as boat people to Vietnam or hide their intentions via third country as the ticket is tracked.

what, doesn't everyone make rice by making congee and straining it out?

If you're going to make fried rice with freshly cooked rice, it's actually a good idea to rinse the starch off so it won't clump as much. Same thing you do to noodles when you're going to fry them or make something like zaru soba. But then you need to spread the rice out on a tray and let it dry for an hour at least before you continue on, that's where it gets weird. If the rice isn't dry it's going to be a disaster. Overnight in the fridge or spread out and fanned, either works.
