Maybe we should tell Gaddy Jr to include something about how this story is in fact made up, and not the truth?
Sort of like inventing fiction books.

Diog, how are dreams regarded in Ur?

Do people share bizarre dreams just for fun? Are they regarded as prophecy?

Essentially, could we use dreams as a shorthand for stories that didn’t happen (fiction)?

Dreams can be interpreted as a source of divine information, sometimes, usually, they just weird things you see in your head when you sleep.

You can't voluntarily invent New Cultural Stuff, like styles of writing, consider this an offshoot of the No Bronze Aged Steam Engines thing. Gaddiel the Younger made whatever it is he made on his own.

Questions for Law and Custom:
How is El depicted in the Old Tales if writing his name or painting his image is forbidden?

Can Labaras be depicted, or is he as forbidden as El is?

We could make the argument that El is not in the new script stories because it is not allowed as per the above, though I would still like to include thanks to the Lord somehow.

1 Bb Sure, let a few trusted smiths work it. It's more useful for the less Blooded than it is for Enkidel. If Tudiya says no it hasn't cost us anything.
2 GHI We should probably go through Tudiya. I doubt he'd be worried about the technology spreading without Snarls' direct assistance and it would let him better stock his apocalypse bunker.
3 Gaddiel needs to label the book so people know not to rely on it. Ur puts a lot of responsibility on creators not injuring others with their creations. If people thought minotaurs could be tamed and died it would be his responsibility. So long as people know it's not true it's fine. Maybe call it a Lie Book if we can't come up with something more polite to call it. Would Imagination Book work?
4 A Seir sucks. If they go I doubt they would gain bows and think we might be lucky if they returned at all if they were coerced into fighting dragons.
5 B It's a weird question to ask.
6 B I'm not sure trying to travel to the other side of Ur is a good idea, even without the risk of Kinnot trying to reclaim its abolitionist youths from Chorazin.
7 C If we want to hire talented artists for the school then we should send our best artist both to identify and persuade them.

1. Do you still want to tell Tudiya about High Silver?
B. Yes.

2. What do you want to do with your discovery of Burn Rock? Pick as many as you want, any option which gets 50%+ 1 vote will win.

Encourage him to give thanks to THE LORD in his stories, where appropriate, for naught can be accomplished without His guidance, but otherwise leave him be, or actively encourage him to continue.

4. Do you try to stop Tamzi and his fellows from going to Seir?
F. I want to go with them.

5. Would you like to, as subtly as you can manage, try to find out if Arakhu heard about what happened at Chorazin?
B. No.

6. Er, wait. Is someone going to Kinnot? There are subtle ways you can try to persuade Arakhu not to go, if you want to.
A. No, I don't bother.

7. If you are not going to get meddle in Arakhu going to Kinnot, you could try to recruit some Elite Artists to come back to Kavodel, either to beautify the city or to teach. Would you like to do so?
B. I sent my grandson Esher.
D. I sent Ophatz, son of Ahaz, my grandson.

2. I - the big threat in spreading coal around is the pollution factor, if it became widespread we might suddenly find ourselves with industrial revolution Britain type air quality. The potential of it is obvious, but I don't know that being able to make High Silver is that huge an advantage, so just put the info before Tudiya and let him decide if he feels like it's worth it.

3. Don't punish Gaddiel the Younger, but suggest to him that it would be in everyone's interest, his obviously included, if he started putting a bit more El positive stuff into his tales. Don't write any fictional accounts of El's activities of course, but make sure El is portrayed positively. It shouldn't be a hard sell, seeing as El is obviously real and glorious. It's not like we're asking a modern day writer to start putting in questionably christian themes to appease a small group, we're asking a guy to put in some stuff about the greatest aspect of our culture that everyone loves and adores. I can see, down the road, the potential problem: fiction becomes normalized and suddenly people start wondering what else they're told might be fiction, resulting in a possible doubting of El and the Old Tales. That being said, the obvious fact of El's actual interventions in the world around here should help dissuade people from doubting, and I can't bring myself to vote to ban fiction.

4. D. Let the guys know what's up, they might be in danger in Seir and they should know it.

5. B. Honestly I'd rather we didn't know about Chorizo and risk getting involved with, then loving up, everything going on there.

2 GHI In fact, let's make a whole presentation for Tudiya. Have one of Lefkandi's best artists make a pot decorated with the new red coloring, show him our accomplishments on the forge, and bring him the burn rocks to show off. Dad could use a pick-me-up and his bizarre son bringing him new wonders to admire might help.

3 Have Jobe examine the stories. If he doesn't find anything objectionable about them, then Gaddiel may keep using these stories to teach children, but they must also be taught that the stories are fiction and that they must know the difference between real stories like those of the Old Tales and stories that are untrue. Run any new stories past Jobe to make sure that there's nothing heretical in them.

4 A Tell them that if they want Seir bows they may visit the bowyer that we got our first bow from in Baitel. Tell them of the challenges involved in meeting his expectations. Explain that Seir's king is reputed to be tyrannical and will not welcome men coming to do honest trade.

We didn't make the wiki. He is an original Ball. You have very literally seen him bleed, he has numerous descendants and you have heard him conceive at least one of them with his wives. In your adventures he has also bedded women he was not related to, you are confident he is a not a secret melachim. Considering the number of Bnaimokt you saw him kill before, that probably also rules out Bnaimokt spy.

Third is another of the Blooded Elite, someone who has not otherwise done anything interesting enough in your life to merit a mention, so the Capybaras didn't think it important enough to name him here. They are not the third most Blooded person in Kavodel anyway who is not already one of your Mighty Men, a number of people who probably were strong contenders for second and third place had no desire to become a Mighty Man. The quoted portion had a minor typo which we since fixed.

Muranu says "I would ask you force him to stop writing such abominable filth and have him make an appropriate sin offering at the temple."

To which Gaddiel says "Sin offering? Magistrate, I did nothing wrong!"

Muranu shakes an angry hand which clutches a scroll in it and he says "In this deviancy you have a child befriend a minotaur! A minotaur!"

To which the much smaller Gaddiel replies "Which is no less than Labaras did to Enkidu, or many men of great renown did to terrible beasts, taming them to obey."

This was NOT a response the crowd liked and it gets many angry yells out of the mob as Gaddiel tries to shout loud enough for you to hear "Magistrate, Magistrate, they are just fun stories to delight children and help them learn to read swifter! I don't understand what all the fuss is about!"

JustaDamnFool posted:

Before he can even answer Muranu shouts "Because he has lost his mind!" many in the mob yell their agreement until you glare at Muranu and raise a hand for silence, which you get. Then you turn to Gaddiel and say "Well?"

Gaddiel replies "I dare not do such a thing Magistrate. Why, why that unlike my stories would ACTUALLY be heresy-" this gets the angry mob shouting again and you DEMAND silence and get it as a flustered Gaddiel explains that "-the King decreed that none of the Old Tales could be put to parchment and I am a scribe, not a priest, I could scarcely mention the Almighty lest I risk offense, to write even a single sentence of El which was not literally true would be to claim to know His will which surely a man such as myself could never do. These are stories to delight children and help them read, El preserve, not tell them how to make war, there are surely MANY men at hand eminently qualified to teach them such things" he motions at the angry mob.

And of the lack of violence, you ask? A good story to teach children usually has men fighting worthy, glorious battles for a grand cause. From what you've seen so far... the worst anyone has done has spoken some mean words?

Gaddiel says "Magistrate, as you can see from their angry fathers behind me, I teach the children of many different peoples, the descendants from the oldest Zepathan families and men whose grandfathers were slaves in Ibleam, I mean... I only set out to write stories I thought the children might enjoy and thus learn their letters better to copy and show to their friends, but when they delighted in them I thought, why not help teach them to get on better with their neighbors?"

In a more restrained tone, but still rather upset Muranu says "There Magistrate, he admits it. He is trying to teach our children to be weak. What man has slain more demons than you? Who can claim to have felled more monsters?" Not that you say this but uh, Uriah, by a massive amount actually... if you exclude Bnaimokt at the second battle of Acco "-surely you did not think you could "make friends" with the terrible demons you slew at Karnak Magistrate? This "scribe" is teaching our children to be weak when instead they must be strong."

Then why not just pull your children out of his school? Why bring this here?

Muranu says "Because these seditious stories will poison the minds of our children and make them weak, REGARDLESS of what this man claims his true intentions are, and I have cause to doubt."

And what do you think he intends?

Muranu says "In his deranged scriblings all are equitable towards each other and just as able, the only son of a Blooded man is even shown as dull witted. I think that this man is jealous of the Blooded and thus seeks to poison the youth against us."

Gaddiel looks to you shocked and after a moment says "I... what? Magistrate. That is ridiculous. They are stories for children, if Muranu and the others are upset, that is because they are looking FOR things to upset them."

Gaddiel is 100% correct on both charges but particularly the piety one, of course he can't include El-adjacent content much less directly attribute things to El Himself. I'm pretty sure Jobe will agree with him, it's not Gaddiel's job to teach kids about El that's why priests exist. Gaddiel's job is to teach kids to read, and he is doing it very well, and in fact he should be commended for coming up with such an ingenious way of making kids want to read of their own volition, that makes the education process much easier. We're not going to punish a man for doing his job well, especially when he didn't break any laws.

You summon Jobe and ask him. There is a pause as Jobe, who reads at a strictly human speed scans one of the parchments and then puts it down and after only having read part of one of them says "I do not see anything blasphemous in here. It is strange, certainly but not heretical. And to avoid the inclusion of El was a wise decision, as Gaddiel said to include him in any way risks the one writing such a text to mislead others of El's will."

Jobe did not spend enough time to read the entirety of the one scroll, but no one seems to have said anything about that?
