I was really hoping Splash Mountain could hold out long enough that it's final week would be scheduled after the pandemic cools down, but I'm not certain about that. This ride is loving broken.

The Disneyland one is also in rough shape but I wager it will probably tough it out until the reproduction job starts. Disneyland maintenance is gunshy about letting things deteriorate to the levels of safety hazard given that doing so has previously killed guests.

I'm genuinely curious how that happens short of a fist sized hole in the bottom. Even a small hole, it would take some time for those boats to fill, especially with trips up lifts where they aren't submerged.

I'm not familiar with where the dips are but that second pic looks like it just is coming out of a downward slope and when they (rightfully) got out, maybe it got pushed under more and the seats started to rapidly fill.

Fluffy Bunnies

Yeah that looks more like a misloaded boat than a maintenance problem. Also, how'd they get out of the lap bar?

Assuming similarity with original Splash, there are little valves on the back of the boats that basically drain while going up the lifts. They look like a clarinet mouthpiece on the very back bottom. Occasionally one fails and lets water in too. It can be pretty dramatic and can valley a log in the coaster (down and up) drop.

Could've just been really unbalanced, but that looks pretty drat swamped. I would not blame guests at all for hopping out of that.

The third quarter earnings report from the Walt Disney Company shows the magnitude of the COVID-19 shutdown to all aspects of the business.

Specifically in the Parks, Experiences and Products division, losses were reported at $3.5 billion in revenue, a decrease of 85%. This resulted in an operating loss of $2 billion.

On the subsequent earnings call, Christine McCarthy Chief Financial Officer said that Walt Disney World is generating a "positive net contribution" at current attendance levels, with demand expected to grow. However, upside at Walt Disney World is less than originally expected, attributed to the recent surge in COVID-19 in Florida.

Bob Chapek said that there was ample demand prior to the surge in Florida cases, which subsequently dropped off as guests became wary of traveling to Florida. 50% of guests are still traveling from a distance, with the remainder coming from within Florida. Attendance from long distance visitors has been replaced by local and annual passholders where possible. A higher level of cancellations has also been seen since the rise in cases which was not apparent when the parks were announced to be reopening.

Elsewhere at the company, Media Networks was down 2%, Studio entertainment was down 55%, and Direct-to-Consumer and International (which includes Disney+ and its more than 60 million global subscribers) was up 2%.

I think it looks fine? I think I'm a bit underwhelmed by it being multiple riders. I'm not sure how that will work with the immersion of the AR especially if your steering wheel either us just a prop or doesn't simulate the ride vehicle experience you get because the 9 year old behind you ran over a banana peel.

Considering Dynamic Attractions was involved in both Forbidden Journey and Gringotts, that would track.

Much as am loathed to say this, if they shut down again, my fellow Cast and I will likely be out of a job. It is unlikely we'll see the "generous" furlough scenario again.

Shortening hours can also be a way to drive visitors closer together so they can save on operating costs and stay open better.

As much as I understand that and I worry about yall, with rising child numbers of severe coronavirus symptoms, man I've gotta throw myself at that instead. This thing is eating our generation and up bad enough, we don't need to lose kids at the same level. Especially the ones that Disney isn't requiring masks for, because statistically that infant-4 year old zone is where it's popping up the most in the past week or so.

It's the same reason I'm against reopening schools. I want you guys and teachers and everyone else to be gainfully employed. But this poo poo is a monster and now it's starting to go for the kids. America has collectively laughed (not most of us in the thread, but as a nation) off nearly 165k dead people. I don't want little ones to start piling on top of that :smith:

It's completely possible for businesses and schools to make the necessary compromises to continue operating under the current circumstances. Theme parks, restaurants, bars, etc. maintain strict rules on masks and limited capacity while the government properly fines and revokes licenses from those who violate them, schools continue education through distance learning with minor class space for those who lack the setup to do online courses, etc.

Because here's the thing: it would be great if we could just shut everything down for a few months and have the government fund everyone and every business to remain open until this poo poo dies, but that's not going to happen. It's not happening now and it's probably not happening in our lifetime. We're in a hosed up country with a government that's divided between those who actively hurt people and those who let them get away with it, while the people who actually try to make changes are forced to make them happen on a generational scale because that's what real life is. If we open up completely and pretend there's no epidemic, people die until they stop dying. If we close up completely with our current standard for taking care of our citizens, the economy goes into a freefall as businesses that aren't major corporations permanently close and people are thrown onto the streets for having no job to pay rent. Unfortunately we have to live in reality instead of our idealized world where everything works out properly, and that means a compromise between the two is the only way we can move forward with minimal damage.

As it stands right now, your stance is commendable but completely impossible. You may as well ask for Trump to give up power peacefully and President Sanders to implement full socialism.
