I watched Gunbuster today and enjoyed it a great deal. The animation was pretty great and I love the late 80s/early 90s style.

It really has one of the all-time greatest finales. I'm such a sucker for its ending, it makes me get really emotional just thinking about it.

Is there a index/railgun thread? I didn't see one like 6 pages back.

SO and I have been watching railgun. After some rough amounts of fanservice in the beginning it's really quite good. We're like 16 episodes into S.

We didn't watch any index or anything before so I've had to do a little wiki reading to shore up some stuff but mostly it's been fine. S2 really is a lot better than the first.

i would recommend diebuster over some other 2000s gainax shows

like even among the better ones it's a better executed narrative arc than abenobashi

that said, the abenobashi op is better than groovin magic

the abenobashi op is okay i guess. it has less unique visuals than diebuster's and diebuster's already kinda lacks that, the song's kinda catchy but in the context of an op it always felt like it was just sorta there to me

Meh. Diebuster is ok. It lost me when the ending doesn't actually sync with Gunbuster's ending but tries to pull it off anyway.

Gunbuster is deffo where it's at, though.

I think I put Gunbuster a hair above Diebuster but that's mostly just an extreme nostalgia and preference for that style and era of animation and it taking me a while to warm up to the FLCL-look of Diebuster. But otherwise Diebuster loving rules and its fourth episode is probably in the conversation for best single episode of an anime ever IMO.

I think Groovin Magic is just okay. The animation in the op is just show highlights which is a little boring to me. That said I actually remember it which puts it far above gunbuster's op

also i always kinda felt like gunbuster's mix of genres never really coalesced into a single whole and instead just kinda kept jumping between them, while diebuster got a more cohesive story from beginning to end and consequently left a larger impact on me
