Where is the rest of her family (and I guess the families of the other major campaign staff) currently? I thought at least some of them had moved their children out of the country in advance of the election as a precaution, but I forget the specifics. Granted, if Russia is pro-Lukashenko behind the scenes (I think that's most likely the case--Putin doesn't have much love for Lukashenko, but I doubt he's particularly interested in this sort of regime change and probably won't mind having leverage over him), being elsewhere in Europe isn't the strongest of protections, but eh, whatever, I'm overthinking things.

Edit: video coming out suggests that protesters aren't backing down en masse, and cities other than Minsk don't appear much different than the past couple days (i.e. people are still coming out, and police presence there is less). From Gomel:

https://twitter.com/lituainianach/status/1293273721109651457

Nexta's Telegram is calling for others to come out in various other cities, but I don't know how much people inside the country can receive that at present (presumably not great--some people clearly have Telegram access, but probably not many since it presumably requires some sort of internet link that doesn't go through a state carrier).

Minsk it's really hard to tell what the hell is going on, but it looks like protesters are moving around more, car blockades are fewer, and police have gotten more violent. In particular, the police have apparently started attacking vehicles more; there's footage of vehicles getting shot and their occupants beaten, with one report that security services shot out tires before breaking the glass and dragging people out.

Kolesnikova is still in Belarus and isn't encouraging protestors, but she isn't telling them to stop either. The main thrust of the message here isn't directed to them of course (it's to the authorities, asking them to stand down), but she does address them at the end and just asks everyone to be safe and take care of themselves and those around them:

Interesting news and conjecture out of Poland. Apparently Poland was completely sidelined by the EU. Polish PM’s call for an extraordinary EU summit in Belarus was dismissed as arrogant, especially in light of the ongoing breaches of the rule of law in the country. Tikhanovskaya’s exit was negotiated by Lithuanian PM, who has visited Belarus a month ago and is reported to be on talking terms with Luka, under the auspices of the US, who don’t want the situation in Belarus to change drastically. By all indications, Lithuania’s in the drivers sear for the EU on this one.

She and her family aren't former spies or anything so I wouldn't be too concerned in that regard. Likely their lives wouldn't be at risk in Belarus either but made up charges and certain imprisonment are guaranteed. Her husband is already behind bars expecting a trial for three years in prison.

There was the first officially confirmed case of the police using live ammunition against protesters.

Ministry of Internal Affairs posted:

In Brest, police officers were attacked by a group of aggressive citizens with pieces of metal rebar in their hands. Preemptive shots up did not stop them. In order to protect the life and health of the law enforcement personnel, they had to shoot to kill. One of the attackers was injured.

Dunno, it'd be odd to join protesters in uniform? I think it makes sense that defectors would view their insignia and uniforms as a statement that they're part of the administration and remain in its service, which isn't the message in those videos.

A couple things like this coming out though, where groups or individual OMON officers on the street are just leaving protesters be after arriving, or talking with them peacefully:

Belarusian riot cop to an arrested Russian journalist:

“We're just waiting for you to start burning something on the streets. And then we will start shooting at you, we have an order to do so. There once was a great country — the Soviet Union, and because of faggots like you, it died. Because no one put you in place on time. If you [Russians] think that you have successfully implanted your Tikhanovskaya here, you were tricked by her. You should know that you will not succeed in orchestrating a second Ukraine, we will not allow Belarus to become part of Russia.”

I've seen this on telegram, but the way it was described, it was like a sonic tank from Dune mixed with God know what other futuristic technology that also emits high frequency light that causes headaches (???), and my guess is the whole thing was probably fake. With the amount of information coming in, it's an unfortunate consequence that the few people responsible for several biggest telegram channels just can't moderate everything properly.

I mean, Belarus is probably a decent approximation of what the Soviet Union would have looked like today if it had survived in some form instead of becoming Russia, especially if the conservative (in relation to reforming/staying with the Soviet system) hardliners in the Party and the armed forces had managed to oust Gorbachev and/or Yeltsin.

What's unprecedented is that mayors and other officials are willing to speak to protesters directly. Zhodino's (BelAZ hometown) mayor reluctantly promised to visit today's protest to make sure that neither the police or the protesters escalate the situation.

Oddly enough his case was dismissed by the judge and he was released. They tried him for inciting illigal mass action by his post about quitting on instagram. I would think they'd make an example of him.

There was also a number of government journalists quitting and 2 beurocrats from president administration. Most notable of whom is Dmitriy Semchenko, the head of presidents journalists pool.
