Max Wilco posted:Marketplace.TF updated their blog today with this announcement: Geel was on discord and basically said that they keep getting ddos'd from (likely) another TF2 marketplace-type shop. He's been overwhelmed by his trading empire for years, since they basically act as the legal middleman for chargebacks and everything. It sounds like he just wants out and that he doesn't even want marketplace to operate as a go-to selling site even when limited to a few sellers.

Hey, while I was paying less attention to the game for a few years, and there were some updates I missed (like Jungle Inferno)... did they ever add my #1 wish, a Lugermorph strangifier? My hopes aren't high but I thought I'd ask. EDIT: remembered the wiki exists. No dice.

There used to be bugged strangifiers that you could put on anything, that's how I ended up with a strange Saxxy.

This game is still so good. Been getting put into games with the same people quite a bit too. Even though I use the casual game picker option seeing familiar faces reminds me of the great days. I wish it would have another heyday.

ArfJason posted:the enemy team kicked their two hackers when i tried the game couple days ago. thank you tf community Yeah I have noticed this happening constantly. There are so many hackers but each team is immediately voting to kick. Really happy how little the games have been affected by them despite how many there are.

I ran into a pack of 4 bots the other day that would create vote kicks and spam the chat with dozens of lines of "bot bot bot" and kick legitimate players from the team. The behavior training where people just vote "yes" on votekicks to remove bots is being weaponized a bit. Most of the time I see the shashta bots kicked before they can even leave spawn.

Shere posted:I ran into a pack of 4 bots the other day that would create vote kicks and spam the chat with dozens of lines of "bot bot bot" and kick legitimate players from the team. the bot brigades are pretty rare and easy to spot since they just leave the server hollowed out, so you're not really missing much. the bigger problem is when lone cheaters manually call a vote on a random person as soon as people start calling them out in the chat (at least NAME THE loving BOT instead of saying "red plz kick bot" ffs, if a botter joins mid-round the other team is probably too engrossed in their own game to catch on right away)

Yeah, in addition to the obvious irc. and whatever URL bots and shastabots I'm still seeing a few of the last breed where if you initiate a vote kick they immediately leave before they can be kicked, the behavior was that they'd do "retry" and could rejoin the server without the vote kicking them, but Valve patched that out. I have noticed the new bots are occasionally initiating a votekick right away, but 90% of the time it gets caught and nobody votes yes. I think they're doing it so there's a delay before anyone can kick them since you can't have multiple votes going at once. edit: almost all of them either have a URL for a name or the word "bot" in there and they always go sniper, so it's pretty easy to find by pressing tab.

I've accidentally voted F1 too fast a couple times, but I've learned my lesson and now I basically only vote yes on the (ridiculously common) bots with 'bot' or an irc url in their name. EDIT: I've started even ignoring the pro/con arguments in text and voice chat, after this incident: Someone was being kicked for "abusing exploits" that the vote-caller refused to describe, for the sake of not publicizing the exploit. That sounded plausible, and the votee wasn't piping up to defend themself, so I voted to kick. Afterward, the vote-caller was pressured into admitting that the offending "exploit" was "spamming an action that raises your scoreboard points a lot a lot without contributing much to the game". It was about the goddamn scoreboard. Ditocoaf fucked around with this message at 06:15 on Aug 20, 2020 |

Gonna be honest, I'm really sick of badlands, I never really understood the love for well except maybe for the inside space around 2/4, and I kinda hate granary.

Badwater is perfect, you're right. Upward is neat and the last point needs a little nudging to be perfect, but I really love the map's gimmick of being built in a climbing spiral. I'm not too warm on 5cp in general, I like defined attacking/defending roles, but Foundry is a really good map, maybe if anything the sniper sightlines are a little long but otherwise it's great. I feel like the best maps really take advantage of vertical terrain and maps built on perfectly level ground with some buildings and crates and things are boring.

Honestly I think I'm over Payload in general. Give me the 5cp and Koth queues any day. Also Gravel Pit, but I'll bail on it as soon as it cycles to a different A/D map.

Badlands and Granary used to be the best maps until Sunshine and Process became in the rotation. Both are still good mind you, but I think the others are better.

I don't really care for process. It's okay, but I think sunshine's the better map.

On 5 cp maps both teams have to aggressively push for it to be fun for everyone. I prefer to get rolled in 2 mins then scramble the teams for the next map as opposed to a long drawn out last hold where the defending team has loads of engies and the attacking team ineffectually tries to push in with no meds or whatever.

I've always felt like the timer behavior for 5cp should be modified (at least for 12v12 games) to have diminishing returns on "time added" if the same point keeps getting retaken repeatedly. Such that the match will inevitably end, threatening the imminent loss of any team that can't push past their own 2nd. In fact, in my ideal version of 5cp, each type of capture event (red takes mid, red takes 4th, red retakes their 2nd, ditto each for blue) would only add time the first time it happens. A lot more games would end based on who holds mid when the timer runs out, but I think that's preferable. Ditocoaf fucked around with this message at 08:43 on Aug 21, 2020 |

yeah i love foundry but basically every point cap would return the timer to 10 minutes. I never particularly cared about stalemates, since to me the most fun of playing the game comes down to the engagements rather than the actual outcome (you can lose a match but still feel like a god because you landed a double pipe airshot). but i understand its a drag for like 99% of people and 5cp should have some kind of resolution that isnt a wet fart for both teams

Grapplejack posted:lol uncle dane doesn't have badlands well or granary on his servers He COULD add those, but nobody ever votes for 5CP maps when the vote menu comes up, and on the rare occasion we DO end up on a 5CP map, half the server immediately tries to RTV. I was about to write something about them recognising that 5CP just isn't a good gamemode in pubs because rounds are either a steamroll or a several-hour-long slogfest, but then I remembered this is the same server that will frequently vote to go to Powerhouse where I've seen single rounds go on for 2+ straight hours, so vv (This is my experience with the Frankfurt server at least, maybe it's different in the US servers. I forgot those were a thing when I wrote this lol)

yeah mobility makes or break a good videogame for me and being limited like that sometimes can be a good challenge, since you have to rely on wall rjs and then hopefully land boosts, but unfortunately in junction theres so much decorative geometry and props its a nightmare, not to mention the actual design is chokepoint county

I still have the most fun on cp_badlands, koth_harvest, and ctf_doublecross. Probably my trinity. There are a couple of turbine remixes as well that can be fun to blast around. Since I restarted I might redo my tf2map list again now that I have played some of the newer ones more and visited the older with a different skillset.
