Is there a simple way to understand jurisdiction in air crashes, or is it usually just whatever people think will work best?

There’s usually up to three parties involved:
1. The country whose territory the plane crashed on
2. The airline’s flag country
3. The aircraft’s country of manufacture

I believe lead is supposed to be 1, 2 if in international waters. The resources then take priority there though if say country 2 doesn’t like what they’re seeing then country 3 can do it’s own thing (egyptair, though I think that was also in US waters?))

vvv e.g. australia/and Malaysia 370

Sometimes a nation with passengers onboard will get involved, but that's usually more of a diplomatic intervention or offer of resources than a direct jurisdiction.

I was thinking about it re the Air India bombing, which was the worst air-related terrorist attack till the World Trade Center attacks, and the victims being overwhelmingly Canadian. For some reason though, this doesn't count as Canada's worst air disaster.

Well the RCMP did bungle the investigation pretty good at least.

Well, the crime occurred in Canada in that case?

Yeah, someone beat you to posting that in both this thread and the Weathergeddon thread, but you've been kinda busy so...

Also remember that homeowner's/renter's insurance covers spoiled food from extended power outages. Something I had to learn the hard way as a result of the :airquote: Super Derecho :airquote: of 2012.

They better let them keep the drat wing.

I would hang it in the center of my rebuilt garage, like a hanging aircraft display at a museum.

A++ would fly again

That’s a Canadair CL-415, later called Bombardier 415 aka “superscooper” :haw:

That one says Quebec on the side, so probably not the same pilots, but equally crazy.

My uncle flies those. He was a navigator on antisubmarine planes for years and then a commercial bush pilot, and has a ton of stories about picking branches out of the wing struts after coming in on an ice runway that the lazy fishermen didn't prepare long enough or whatever. I imagine that sort of experience is actually seen as a benefit when you apply to fly water bombers.

I was super pumped that they got the Icon in FS2020 but god help me if it isn’t particularly fun to fly. It just apparently explodes if you gonna bit too fast. Though I understand that this may be intended behavior given how the real thing performs. The parachute lever not working is a crime though.
