Most "real" punk shows I've been to have had good pits where people are supportive and not trying to really hurt people. The worst pit I've seen was at a Billy Idol show. Couple of drunk old men throwing punches toward the outside of the pit.

boar guy posted:saw guns and roses, metallica and faith no more at the pontiac silverdome in 1992. i swear to god the minute the lights went out and the band came on stage security all absconded to the rafters to smoke weed OMG, that would have been my dream show. My sister who's older saw GnR and Metallica in Los Angeles during that tour, not sure if Faith No More was there. Faith No More was my favorite band as a little kid, my first pet was named after Mike Patton. You lucky duck! My friend almost passed out from asphyxiation waiting to get into a Tool concert cause she was a short lady and the crowd surged and suddenly there was no oxygen in the area where she was standing, we had to shove people away from her to get some space, was one of the best shows I'd ever seen though.

I went to a korpikaalni/eluvetie concert where folks in the pit would help anyone up who fell, occasionally doing the angry headbang macarena. A person there told me about an In Flames concert she'd gone to where a guy in the pit was actively targeting and bowling over women near the edge but outside, and no one did anything. Only nonmetal show I've been to was Heilung. Super chill, and way more people with antlers than I expected.

My two favourite shows the last couple of years were Andrew W.K. and Gogol Bordello but there was obviously no moshing there, just happiness. Makes me think of the time AWK showed up at the Gathering and kept loving with them as the audience kept throwing poo poo at him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUOvnbCtnVQ

I saw Cave In perform here after their bass player had passed away. The emotions were palpable. I laughed. I cried. I walked out of that show shaking with tears in my eyes. It was magnificent.

I haven't seen them live yet but I love their music to be honest I really don't understand the appeal of mosh pits, but I go to concerts to get stoned out of my mind and to nod along with the music so I guess I'm not in the position to judge now that I think about it the very last mosh pit I saw was at a toxic holocaust + municipal waste gig in december, seems so far away

Catastrophe posted:just curious if you got to see Walls of Jericho Oh wow, that's a name I haven't thought about in forever. Some of my friends in high school were pretty into punk/hardcore, and I ended up tagging along to a bunch of shows. I saw Walls of Jericho in late 2000 at the now-defunct Elbow Room in Columbia, South Carolina, and I do remember it being a pretty fun pit.
