They don't really see the person as a person, and whenever this sort of thing happens they just move on to another streamer that they can slot into their story.

I will never defend anyone giving innocent streamers a hard time over it, but it's obvious that many of these 'simps' are futilely trying to fill an affection gap in their lives - the attractiveness and nudity of the specific object of their desire are ultimately ancillary, although obviously an important part of the fantasy. That is deeply sad and a typical 21st-century disease.

The commodification of affection and attention under late stage capitalism definitely harms many people. It's tragic as gently caress but it doesn't excise the commodificstion of and entitlement to women in public spaces as a coping mechanism. The same thing plays out in the ASMR community, which is even more explicitly focused on emotional affection, where multiple women have been stalked, had their nudes leaked, or been driven out altogether because of obsessed dudes. One ASMR performer just launched an only fans and explained her reasoning was that her nudes have already been leaked, she already has random guys dming her to say how much they enjoyed using them, and she figures it's only a matter of time before people start deep faking her into porn, so if people are going to sexually use her, why not do it on her own terms and actually make money off of it. Which I suppose is good with money because she claims she paid off all her debt and bought a car off her first month's haul. Also unless actual fraud is involved, can we please not say thirsty guys are getting scammed? That language removes responsibility and accountability from men and instead puts the burden on women for provoking the helpless and emotionally impulsive men. It's the same logic as blaming women for showing too much skin.

Agreed with your first paragraph, but the last one is not really something you can generalize either way. Just look at each individual case and decide whether or not it can reasonably be described as a scam (even if you think it's hilarious). Note that the original tweet came from a content provider, not a subscriber.

From what was described in this thread, it very much seems scammy and indirectly hurts the other sex workers that are active on the platform.

Passing off photos of an adult performer is absolutely a scam. I'm more talking about guys who feel scammed because thy threw money at their waifu before finding out she has a boyfriend. Even $200 for a bikini pic doesn't seem like a scam unless the performer promised something else, as opposed to thirsty fans feeling entitled to something else.

On the other hand part of the rule book is saying you're making more than you are, it advertises that you're "worth it" and successful and that people have to donate a lot to be in the top tiers. You don't price your bath water at $5 and work up. You place it at $300 and act like that's normal. Most people who get into this (I never did but I've known people) cane away with less than if they'd just worked minimum wage at a Denny's.

Onlyfans isn't just for porn, that's the thing - it just gets used for it a lot because it used to have favourable conditions for self-promotion for sex work. Like patreon. I think it's weird to call what Bella Thorne did a scam, largely for the reasons Soylent Pudding laid out - having looked into it more now as well it doesn't look like she ever promised anything specific. She made statements about only having joined onlyfans for research and never promised titty pics, just unspecified exclusive content, on a platform that is literally used by people to put up e.g. exclusive content like extra pics from sfw modelling photoshoots, extended blogs etc. not just sex workers producing straight up porn. There's an argument to be made that the ways celebs have been playing off of onlyfans rep to add a bit of spice by association to otherwise mundane exclusive content is kinda scummy overall, but mostly for the knock on effects it's had on sex workers using the platform, not because thirsty dudes feel cheated imo. small ghost posted:Onlyfans isn't just for porn, that's the thing - it just gets used for it a lot because it used to have favourable conditions for self-promotion for sex work. Like patreon. So I looked at what the sex workers on OF were saying about it and how it harmed them. It's ambiguous if Thorne actually said it was going to be nudes (I don't think any of them are subscribed to her to find out), but the price was so high that it's generally agreed that it was implied that it would be something other than more normal bikini pics. It's something that was technically within the rules but blatantly a bad thing to do. The bigger problem is that her actions are now directly harming sex workers who might be reliant on this platform. It's bad enough that OF takes a 20% cut of your pay, but the stigma against sex workers means that they face threats to their jobs, relationships, and even their lives if they're found to be involved in it. Thorne is viewed as someone who's basically "playing pretend", messing around with it without needing to take any of the risks the majority of users actually do, and still being handed tons of money for it. Without thinking about the consequences, she turned her "research for a film" into something that's directly exploitative of vulnerable people using the platform to make a living and just gets to walk away with her career and reputation unscathed. Depending on how OF takes their cut, it's theorized as well that the sudden shift to a 30-day payout (which could be disastrous for someone living paycheck to paycheck each week) is because the site simply doesn't have the money to pay her cut for such an insane amount of money as she probably got from fans for that fakeout.

I just checked this thread again and I realized that there's going to be a subset of people who will see my avatar and think "hey the auto-fellatio goon," because I happened to read the same thread about marketing as someone who remembered my wisdom gained and chose to once again post about sucking my own dick. Hopefully they will also remember my teachings. My hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos led to me sucking my dick led to me telling people about the experience because I have no filter led to wisdom? Is telling people about this a dumb marketing move that is going to hurt my personal brand?
