There's usually a sort of playbook that dictators follow when they want their son's to take over and the visual aspect is very similar to their relationship. The difference is that Kolya has no real position within the government, he's still a child so that's a given, but they haven't had him actually joining the military or announced plans to go to a most likely Russian military academy. I honestly just think Lukashenko wants to publicly cultivate the appearance of a fatherly figure and spoil his one son by indulging him.

You;ve given me food for thought, you might be on to something with dictator's playbook. Especially when we all understand that his father is not exactly sane.

Was surprised about the exarch, this job is normally given for life. Why would they decide to change him? Especialy now? He didn't make any loud statements, he wasn't threatened, and Orthodox church usually doesn't like noise, and they don't want to get involved in the conflict I'm pretty sure.

Maybe Vlad & Luka intend to weaponise pravoslavny identity politics against the protesters. Some Russian conservatives I talked to were incoherently complaining about young rebellious gay homofashisti trying to tear Belarus[sia] away from the Russian World.
:qqsay:

But idk if Belarusians even care about all that stuff. In Russia nobody goes to church and yet these kind of manipulative moves are very effective.

You think Paul was fired for refusing to broadcast this message? I mean, whoever they install in his place will not have much respect because we don't even know who he is, not to mention that even Paul commands about 3% of authority that his predecessor Filaret had. I met him once, when he entered the room this is like you met Darth Vader. I don't know how he did it but he had ridiculous charisma. Very powerful presence and I am not a religious person by any means. New exarch is a Belarusian man, bishop Veniamin

When Paul was appointed by the synod he wasn't super popular because he is Russian and nobody understood why him because there isn't any shortage of our own clergy. But eventually grown on us a little bit because at least bothered to learn our language, its kind of endearing. Like the swedish ambassador who nobody could understand because of his accent and the fact that very few Belarusians actually speak Belarusian.

Haha, I just learned that there is a new flashmob in town :D People are gathering en masse to force their members of parliament to resign. At this rate we will soon not have any parliament except for this babe.

People queue up in random places to sign appeals, and passersby stop to ask what's the queue for, like it's the nineties again, lol.

It's amazing how Belarusian civic society has grown almost out of nothing.

One thing is "good" about it, army is playing either sad classical songs or patriotic, their psychological warfare unit or something. I am amazed at how loud it is, any DJ would give his soul for this technology.

Yeah, basically people figured that laws don't work anymore, thus their money could literally be taken if Luka got upset about something.

Also, another thing that was not reported in this thread. There was an attack on Libyan embassy! Basically they are dealing with their own civil war right now and embassy represents parlament faction and someone decided its a good time to change that. Caused some diplomatic confusion, when cops arrived to clear thigs up nobody pressed charges and they themselves couldn't because it was technically foreign soil, out of their jurisdiction.

Embassies and consulates are given extraterritoriality, which is an exemption from the host country's jurisdiction but not a grant of territory. The area remains the sovereign soil of the host country. The extraterritorial status of a diplomatic representation is not actually tied to the area where it is located but to the diplomatic personnel (the ambassador or consul and part of their staff), which extends to their workplace and residence. That's why an embassy can easily move from one building to another and there's no need for the two nations to sign treaties exchanging the territories.

OMON was powerless to block their marches in the morning, as kids would simply run around the blockades set up on Minsk’s wide boulevards. Now they’re cracking down and arresting males. It’s a bad look, as there’s already a bunch of videos of OMON manhandling essentially children.

Archbishop Kondrusiewicz couldn't return to Belarus from Poland.

https://belsat.eu/en/news/roman-catholic-archbishop-and-belarusian-citizen-tadeusz-kondrusiewicz-denied-entry-to-country/

He is a Belarusian citizen, and suffice to say it's extremely illegal to prevent a citizen from entering their country. 12 years ago or so Lukashenko already tried to crackdown on dissenting Catholic clergy, but he only could decline visas to Polish priests. When I think exiling an archbishop, I normally would imagine a medieval king who wants to marry his cousin, but the Pope won't let him, but here we are. 2020 hellworld worldwide!

E: Lukashenko's already commented that Kondrusiewicz is on the list of personae non grata, but the Archbishop is a Belarusian citizen, so that doesn't make any sense. Even if he had another citizenship, which is technically illegal, to deny him entry, he would first have to be stripped of his Belarusian one, which he wasn't.

Russia has also apparerntly shipped over 6 railcars worth of ammunition to Luhanks and Donetsk.

However 6 railcars really isnt that much munitions, but it can tip the scale in terms of force scarcity.

Germany announced that novichok has been found in the body of Navalny and Merkel is going to make a statement soon. This is on the level of Polonium poisoning of Litvinenko given how much risk everyone in the airport and plane were exposed to

What gives me hope is that Kara Murza and Verzilov were poisoned in similar ways and managed to recover (Verzilov said in his Twitter that his symptoms were similar and he was also flown to Charite)

Because there are nerve warfare specialists that are jetted in to save people like Skripal and his daughter. Had it been a few hours later he woulda been dead as gently caress. Same with navalny. Deadliest isn't the right word thougu it's not the deadliest. Try anthrax aral sea edition, far deadlier.

If they just wanted him dead by poison there are far better poisons but they are various combinations of slower acting, easier to detect, easier to treat or require a more indiscreet administration.

Probably not, which is why Russian assassinations are still occuring in Britain unabated. Many of the agents russian uses leave nothing on the tox reports and if they do its meant to be noticed.

Badri Patarkatsishvili
Berezovsky
Scot Young
And various russian expats.

have died from nefarious means, mostly thrown off of buildings but toxic substances causing heart attacks are another lovely execution method.

The point I was trying to make is that Novichok is not the deadliest thing in the russian arsenal. I know Anthrax is a big population killer not an assassination tool.

With neurotoxins there is deniability in that it got named by Western labs. The Russian agitprop line was that Navalny drank too much/had a diabetic crisis and now it changed to "they say it's novichok because they're out to get us", the Russian hospital where he was treated for the actual thing was forced to lie that it was a metabolic disorder. Harder to convince people that a corpse with a gunshot wound is faking it like with Nemtsov

Under whose authority? Afaik Germany still has 'laws' and they seem to have some bad past experience when government wasn't following their own constitution and laws that strictly. I doubt Merkel would want to get involved in any illegalities, so it would have to be a secret cabal of generals and at that point Putin is going to be the least of Europe's problems.
