Comixology often will do about $5/trade which is most of what I've gotten from them

Also the discount you get from some companies with Comixology Unlimited does stack with sales so that's a nice bonus to have. If you buy a fair amount of comics Unlimited can easily pay for itself.

DC will have sales a couple times per year where a significant amount of their trades go for $5 (maybe it's now $6?). This year, as stated, hasn't been the best, but typically it happens at BF and SDCC. The main "get" in these sales are some of their larger collections like Knightfall, NML, Injustice, and a lot of the "... By <artist/writer>" collections (e.g. Tales of the Batman by Carmine Infantino), which are usually much more expensive in print.

Marvel will do many 50% sales, BOGO, but will also sometimes have focused sales which get much lower. Amazon may also have super deals, which merge with Amazon. Marvel Unlimited kinda has me ignore their sales a bit, except for Epic Collections.

Image is almost always 50%, no more, no less. Same with Valiant.

Dark Horse has had some really cheap pricing on their Omnis, like the Aliens, Mask, etc.

Fantagraphics is usually just 50%, but I think they have gone to ~60%. Fantagraphics is one of the publishers where I buy a lot of physical due to the shapes/sizes of their books.

Avatar has had a few major discounts on Crossed/Uber/etc. Not so much these days.

Humanoids (mostly for Moebius stuff) has some really good sales at time, like right now you can get the entire Incal saga (before/main/final) for like $12.

The Amazon Fire tablets are on sale, so I just grabbed the 10HD for $100, $50 off(plus the extra $15 because I don't want to see the ads).

And now Dark Horse is doing 50% off on Comixology. Which is great, as one of the last paperback trades I had just read was BPRD. I think I'm going to replace my library editions with the Omnibus ones digitally, since the read order I have seems to go that way a bit easier. (Hell, I can't even imagine why they would do the Library edition in digital, since you're not getting those nice oversized book formats.)

I just spent a few hours setting everything up for Ubooquity and I'm wickedly underwhelmed and will likely uninstall it.

What's the best reader for Android (specifically the Fire HD 10)? I'm looking for something that can browse SMB shares, let you read from them (if I'm home) or download them to the device (if I'm not going to be home when I use it). Basically, the Chunky viewer for iOS, but an Android/Amazon version.

Did you try Kuboo with Ubooquity? It was what I finally settled on, it's not perfect but it does exactly what you're looking for.

If you're going through the Amazon store then it's probably ComiCat, which is a knock-off of Perfect Viewer on Android. I'm pretty certain PV can do just about anything you want, although it has weird quirks in the UI. I'm not sure how you want to, for lack of a better term, manage both your experience of reading comics and the tracking of that reading. That said, the Fire tablets support microSD cards, and you could get a 128gb card from Bestbuy for $40 and hold what I assume would be a large chunk of your library at any one time - PV and ComiCat support folders in a bookshelf-esque manner if you have your comics sorted into folders. If it's all tags then... I dunno, I never could get that stuff to not cause me nightmares.

Keep an eye on Komga it's early in development but it is basically Plex for comics. Open source as well. I tested it out and then switched from ubooquity because it's what I've been looking for. No native apps yet, but devs are working on them.

So I ended up checking out Komga and it has a lot of promise and definitely a sleeker UI than Ubooquity, but it's also completely useless for me because it assumes every comic has embedded metadata or, failing that, that each comic library is just a collection of one folder per series and everything in that folder belongs to that series. This is fine if your comic library is structured around that assumption, but mine isn't, and with no browse-by-on-disk-folder-structure option this means it's basically impossible for me to ever find anything I'm looking for in it.

I'm keeping an eye on it in case they add that option but for now I'm sticking with Ubooquity.

Yeah, I understand that. I'm happy that it works perfect for me, because all my books were already set out one series per folder (with a couple of one shots mixed in) in a main comics folder and they are all tagged with Comicrack. The dev has just added Reading Lists which is another feature I wish more comic readers have since it makes it so much easier to read crossovers.

Sometimes we get lumped in with the States so there's a chance we can get it at the same time.

But cool, this is what I was waiting for. I've always been a Marvel + Batman guy so there's a lot of DC I'd like to explore without being limited to buying Comixology trades.

DC Universe is currently listing 23,613 issues, so not quite the size of Marvel, but enough to keep you busy for a while. I don't remember it having an impressive library when it came out though.

Edit: I was 1,000 issues short, (I had 22,613) they should have no problem getting to 24,000 by January

I was going by Wikipedia, which says MU has 27,000. That puts DC at 84% of MU.

I remember people complaining about the library when it launched, but I haven't paid any attention and don't know if they've added to it.

At launch it was a a curated collection of like a thousand comics.

I'm pretty sure DC has a larger back catalog than Marvel, since they had a 20+year headscarf too.
