Maybe that works in socialist Europe or something but I'm positive that over here we'd just start putting people in the cages we put immigrant children in or something and all that would result is a bunch of juicy new private prison contracts.

oh yeah EA is British so that’s what I was talking about.

over here large arrests wouldn’t faze anyone

It used to be my job to make poo poo like this for the bosses, also make poo poo that purposefully addicts people to a shopping app.
It is sort of a thankful relief that I got laid off, but at the same time it means I don't get to eat lmao

Prison and jail must mean different things overseas.

You can't do six weeks in prison in the US. You wouldn't even get to your "permanent" cell in that time. You would just continue to serve out your sentence in jail.

I can only speak for Cook County jail, but at least ten percent of the people there are waiting for a transfer to the joint and are already serving their prison time despite not being in prison yet.

Prison and gaol are the same thing here in Australia. We also don't have county specific things like that. There is only federal and state law enforcements.

not in all states. what Americans would call jail we call a remand prison; most remand prisons also have some capacity to house people serving their sentences but actual prisons generally can’t hold people on remand.

I feel like the best way for a pro-cop individual to show their support is to do that thing where they all get arrested, but just slowly trickle in so it gets them a little overtime here and there

Another interesting thing about jail/prison here is that even if somebody is slam dunk guilty, their lawyer will drag the case on as long as they can just so they can get some time under their belt before going to prison, which is in most cases worse than jail. If you get 3 years, and your case took ten months, you only have to do 8 months in prison before you can get parole

The companies that rent out office space in London to other companies and the companies that sell overpriced food to commuters are seeing reduced profits in the UK cause of lockdown and working from home so they're screaming to their buddies in the Tory party and the media and so the amazingly obedient journos that make up our media establishment are writing think pieces about how it is actually good to spend 3 hours of your day and £500 of your pay every month to go into work rather than work from home. Edit: While there is a plague on no less, I completely glossed over that part. Nothing like packing like sardines into a tiny train underground while a deadly virus is about.

It's especially funny cause they've spent the last few years berating people that they were stupidly spending all their money on avocado toast and coffees and that's why they can't afford houses and now the line is we apparently need to spend our money on those things because they deserve to be in business AND also be at peace with never owning a house.

Here in Denmark we have the amazing concept of queues for prisons. Meaning that if you are a non-violent/non-dangerous offender, you get to wait for years until there's room for you. Somehow, I bet that would invalidate any point of what ER is trying.

So you might have to go to jail for some little thing you did years ago? That sounds bad.

A bad system of punishment? Surely not!

Generally speaking though, we don't put that many people in prison, you kind of have to make an effort or be very brown. White collar crimes are usually punished with "if you do it again, we'll put you away for real".

Yeah, it's this new thing where they try to rehabilitate prisoners instead of slave labour as punishment. The conservative party and the racist parties are trying to get rid of it, don't worry.
