Just watching Nurburgring 2007 again, did anyone notice at the time how close a driver came to being Bianchi’d on the tow truck as the safety car came out? It’s actually insane that no changes were made and it was still able to happen years later.

I think there’s a lot of ‘Alonso has to be in a BLUE Renault’ going into that decision. Plus the fact having a slow rear end factory F1 team is kind of a wash marketing–wise for a brand like Renault which sells the vast majority of its cars to people who couldn’t give less of a poo poo about racing. Mercedes is a volume brand too but when you’re winning you can at least go ‘look how much better we are at technology than anyone else’.
