Yeah this is dragging. Already forgot what Garou is up to, and Saitama is stuck running along Dragon Road.

Like even reading as a volume rather than weekly, whats going on right now just has no impact on story or characters.

The fight from before the Monster Association dungeon where a bunch of A-rankers gang up on Garou who decides to protect a kid. That fight was legendary! Incredible fight coreography, and character development during the fight from multiple angles. Meanwhile the last year has just been Bleach crew versus the Alphabet warriors.

If to live in this style is to be eccentric, it must be confessed that there is something good in eccentricity.

Grimey Drawer
I have to agree with everyone, I didn't start reading OPM because I wanted to see the same absurd shounen battles I can find in any other manga; indeed, the manga was good because it mocked this concept.

I think this best sums up the problem. It's hard to care about the fight when you have no idea the limits or ranges of anyone's abilities. It felt especially egregious with Child Emperor, but it's true here too.

There's no reason Tatsumaki is stronger than this monster that has consumed massive amounts of energy except that she's a main character. It feels ridiculous. She didn't even have a training arc or anything even. Not even a backstory, though maybe they're building to that.

Just because it's pretty doesn't really make it better, imo.

The fight doesn't need to be justifying power levels to be good. It needs to be saying something about the characters, and it isn't doing that. At best it looks cool, but it's pretty empty of any kind of thematic or emotional through line.

I did think the monster jet was amusing though

I get to see whatever Murata wants to draw. It is a privilege, not a right I'm entitled to. Sometimes it is of things I like, sometimes it is not. I can walk away whenever I want. Until then....

Hey do you want that motherboard?
The fighter jet is hilarious but I agree the pacing has gotten awful. I think they'd be better off keeping the pacing and getting through this arc and then doing some filler stuff to let the web comic get ahead if that was the concern. Orochi would have been far better if he just accepted getting punched.

I don't entirely agree here, there's been some good Tatsumaki characterization going on, but it is padded to hell and easily could've ended a month ago while saying what it had to say.

There's some characterization, but we kind of just keep retreading it. Tatsumaki may seem bratty, but she's actually pretty heroic and willing to put herself at a disadvantage to save people. Cool. But that's happened a couple of times now with the same setup. She twists things like a tornado in a fitting nod to her name, but I think she's done that twice now? And she apparently has random weak spells. But there isn't any emotional core to it. I don't really care about Psychos, and I only sort of care about Tatsumaki. What does their clash even represent? I think the most interesting thing that has happened recently is seeing Darkshine curled up and depressed.

The fact that the art is pretty doesn't absolve it from other criticism. And the fact that no one is forcing us to read it or that another version of it exists doesn't mean that this version can't be criticized? It's not like we're harassing him on twitter for better comics or something. We're discussing it on a discussion forum.

I obviously take this comic very seriously. Don't worry tho, I'm just pacing my poo poo posting for a huge payoff when I make a quality post a few months from now.

I don't get how you think this is dragging. If you animated the start of the fight between the two women until now it'd be like 2 episodes long. They're clearly creating more content to base the future anime around. There's extremely little story in this setting so you gotta have fights (build up, climax, conclusion) as the content

But then I read several chapters at once to binge every few months so maybe the pacing just feels different for me

The Bleach comparison is pretty spot on.

Just do the arc like One did. This arc is super drawn out with pointless fights that occasionally look flashy and cool but have nothing to say at all.

I'd rather they not create more content for the anime if S2 is anything to go by.

SyntheticPolygon

I don't want to say that fight has had nothing to say. Like, it's been pretty good for showing what Tatsumaki's all about not just because "Wow, she's so strong" but we've also gotten a pretty good look on how she conducts herself as a hero. There's been some strong character moments all throughout it's just that this latest chapter doesn't have anything to say besides that this fight's looking to be extended another few chapters. And that sucks because knowing when to end a fight scene is one of the most important parts of action.

This arc has had a lot of problems with fights but this one was doing pretty alright until recently.

Except weve been shown that
Weve already been shown that shes not just a brute force monster (though she can when she wants to) and is very cognizant of the hero parts of being a hero, not just the monster fightan.

So even at best this is a retread of poo poo we already knew.
Theres no reason why the fight needed to continue past psycorochi being wrung.

There are still the Monster Association bigshots and Garou to get to.

And this is completely invalid. It could also be 4, 5 episodes long, it could be half.
How a series gets animated should have no bearing on the comics making side because if you draw manga with the intent of it being animated you completely throw away the strengths of the comics format. Things like a panel to panel transition not being a fixed amount of time.

And it might not even get animated ever considering S2.

I said it sucks this fight is continuing though? Like yeah, I completely agree this fight didn't need to continue after last chapter. No arguments there.

I just think for the most part this fight was good to get a better look at Tatsumaki. Maybe i'm forgetting previous chapters where this was already all discussed (I can believe it, this comic is long and slow) but I don't remember it happening.

Misread your post a bit:
But weve been shown that in The way she prioritized saving the heroes and bystanders over killing psycorochi instantly.
The way she acts normally youd have expected some Sweet Mask monster killing tunnel vision. Or a bratty tantrum.

My main point is that there hasnt been forward movement either in story or characterization for a looong while now.

Yeah that's what i'm saying. That was this fight and I think that was good and cool and why I fought Psychos vs Tatsu was pretty solid for the most part. Obviously the latest chapter is lame and it sets up that the fight will continue which sucks. But if you asked me how I felt about the fight before this chapter i'd have said it's one of the stronger parts of the arc.

Yeah I was about to say, the pacing isn't the issue for me, the issue is that Psykos the villain is just this generic entity the heroes are fighting. In order for the fight to become better we'd need to know more about who Psykos is. She's a pretty big deal afterall since the comic up to this point has presented her as the leader of the monsters and the big invasion. But other than being interested in Garou and then fighting Tatsumaki she hasn't done anything interesting or really gone into why she's doing all this
