Witcher book sales popped 500% after the TV show so I am hopeful of a new generation of zoomers losing their goddamn minds over God Emperor of Dune.

Showed the trailer to my dad who gave me dune to read when I was probably 10. This is after he read the hobbit to me when I was 4 as our nighttime ritual. His comments: That kid doesn’t look how I thought of Paul Is Momoa Duncan? Sucks to be him getting reincarnated for thousands of years Ok holy hell that looks good!

I watch a bunch of reaction videos for this trailer. Most were peopled with pasty nerds who could probably name Ant-Man's shoe sizes in each of reduced/enlarged states. But almost all of them led with, "I haven't read the books but...". Pull their drat nerd cards.

I've been making my way through the Wolf Hall trilogy during COVID while also returning to Dune in various ways. It's pretty fun to read a story that is set in motion when a concubine is unable to grant her king a male heir, while simultaneously reading a story that is set in motion when a concubine insists on giving her king a male heir instead of a female heir. Has Herbert ever mentioned Henry VIII in any of his interviews? Or maybe that story is so suffused in culture that its in every storytellers blood, as it were.

Ironically, the violently disinherited scion of a noble house adapting to, and rising to lead, an insular indigenous people is an ideal character to be the audience exposition stand in. But then there's the whole "know your ways as if born to them" thing.

The Baron being gay definitely seemed like it was supposed to enhance the negative or indulgent aspects of his character. So with that in mind if they kept him just as evil but made him straight or distanced his depravity from his sexuality that might not be such a bad thing.

Leto II's choice words about THE HOMOSEXUAL took me right out of that book the first time I read it. I think I came to the charitable conclusion that it was some kind of residual trauma and hatred for the Baron coloring Leto II's outlook, but nope, that's just Frank talking through a weird worm man's mouth.

It being based on the movie's helps, but Frank Klepacki did some outstanding AdLib work.

Assuming that we are talking about the Dune adventure/strategy game: My English was still developing during that time and I missed certain prompts and ended up dying so many times (like flying into Harkonnen palace or leading the assaults from the frontlines) and also missed two spice deliveries for the Emperor and be like "Lol, like you can do ANYTHING about it hologram man!" and getting instantly vaporized walking one screen outside. It was a good game and pretty much eased me into the books but ngl I spent hell lotta time for looking Solar Tanks in that game
