well it makes sense, since it came from Miyamoto tooling around in his garden, Olimar has to be a lowly salt of the earth type (and unlike Mario, who is presumably similarly classed, he doesn't bang a princess)

I mean, Mario is a straight-up ripoff of John Carter if you assume he actually is a human plumber, right down to "jumps real good" being his superpower. He's all about that wish-fulfilment. Olimar's just a dude getting by.

I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

mario is a comedic role, like harlequin and columbine, or punch and judy. every game takes place on a stage, complete with a curtain, and sometimes even an audience. it's just zany scenarios with known characters, played by a troupe of seasoned performers.

e: mario games which do not feature a stage are inferior. mario 64 gets half-credit for at least putting the character of the lakitu cameraman in the game, clearly intending us to understand the story as a Jack-rear end-esque "reality tv" performance.

What gives Russian animation it's distinctive feel is everyone is copying the style of a popular stop motion animator that was one of the first filmmakers in Russia. It's all done with paper cutouts instead of animation cels. If you watch closely you can tell where some of the elements are physically on top of other ones giving it a little bit of depth. They did the first episode of South Park the same way but it took too long so they fake it with flash animation instead.

I was going to say that Russian animation owes a lot to Gilliam and the pieces he did for Monty Python.

It's an archive of every possible combination of pixels in a 416x640 image, with 4096 colours. It contains, in some version, depictions of all works of art, from the past, present and future, images of every person or animal who has, is, or will ever live, and every great work of writing, since it will generate images of text as well. You can use a search function to find a picture your already have in the archive, but there's no way to search it otherwise.

Agreed. I first read the story as homework in a math class, and if I were teaching something where it'd be appropriate, I'd definitely assign it too.
