There's something to the idea of not letting the nothing matters nature of Trump's administration to infect your own actions so you start thinking it's ok to sit on important information to put it in a book later where you can make more money off of it. But that's an issue of your own principles and what kind of behavior we expect from a free press. It would have done poo poo-all to change Trump's policy so there's no point trying to guilt Woodward from that angle.

And I just can't help but feel like if there was coverage of even 1 commercial plane just mysteriously plummeting to the ground you'd see staggeringly less people taking planes because that's a horrifying thought. Do conservatives really think the world would be better off with millions of unwanted and unintended children? Like my best guess is they think the knock on effects include the cheapening of labour due to an increase in human capital for exploitation. Like even my most charitable reading leaves them still purposely seeking to increase human misery.

For the lizard people at the top (as opposed to true believers and people for whom abortion is a monkey-brain tribal signifier like Wise or people motivated entirely by the desire for those women to have consequences) it's about creating people who are desperate for low wage employment, because they need to feed a baby but don't have time to do that and finish high school. They don't actually care if the kid lives long enough to become a cog, as long as the mom has to work nights and weekends for $2.73 an hour plus tips

"Sleepy Joe then drummed up fear of fires, floods, hurricanes" I've been in some of those floods and hurricanes. I have friends currently facing down those fire. They are terrifying, and yes we should be afraid of them and all the other hosed up environmental disasters climate change has wrought. I hate that climate change deniers are still a thing, the proof is everywhere and currently destroying homes and killing people. I hate it, but I'm not surprised, anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers have shown that there are people who will just look at undeniable proof of something that is dangerous to themselves and others and just go "nah" and continue loving everything up for everyone.

Space Cadet Omoly posted:"Sleepy Joe then drummed up fear of fires, floods, hurricanes" Michael Crichton wrote a novel called State of Fear where extreme environmentalists deliberately cause natural disasters to make people think climate change is real. Now it seems every conservative thinks the West Coast is burning down because of Antifa arsonists, not the hot dry weather exacerbated by climate change.

Australia had the same thing. NSW fires last year that were caused by idiot smokers and "smoking materials" became arson by radical environmentalists. Love that Pope and FDotM, even if they are kicks in the nuts (as usual).

Sometimes I wonder if people were always this fact-resistant, or if I'm just getting old. "We have both proof and examples of climate change? Uhhh... Antifa did it!" like please. Did people do this in the past? Like when the Exxon-Valdez spill happened, was there a political cartoonist saying it was actually the communists, or fake news?
