the worst escort mission is in mafia 1 where they combine 1) taking away your guns 2) mandatory stealth 3) escorting a guy made of paper. you start out with a baseball bat in a hedge maze and you have to creep around knocking out armed dudes who will perforate you and your buddy instantly if you gently caress up

Neddy Seagoon posted:The problem with Yooka-Laylee is it doubled down on the worst elements of those games rather than trying to actually fix them, and banks on BK nostalgia rather than fully striking out as its own thing. Even without nostalgia goggles Banjo Kazooie and Tooie are really fun games on their own merits. i mostly remember watching yooka laylee and thinking a constant stream of 'why does fall damage exist in this game' and 'jesus christ the loving talking noises are awful' as like some sort of background static the entire time

Johnny Joestar posted:i watched someone play yooka laylee around when it was new and if there's anything i learned it's that not having nostalgia for any of the banjo games meant that a lot of the design decisions that the devs decided to carry forward into their New Game Released In 2017 really probably should have stayed dead yooka laylee actually took a big step down from a lot of design elements from the old games, like with the level layouts in particular. even DK64's levels tended to have clear signposting, breadcrumb trails, central landmarks and color-coding to keep you oriented. Never played Perfect Dark and I loving loved Mario Tennis 64 (if only for the GBC connectivity). This would be really loving cool. I know VC is dead but ugh... knowing how many games I've lost/given up over the years it's a hell of a thing to be able to have again on this gem of a console.

Levels are just not designed that well and are much bigger than they needed to me. And like you said they really needed to be better designed so you can know where to go or if you've actually been there.

Yooka Laylee's levels are just a random assortment off stuff vomited onto an oversized canvass they are totally doing that with mario 64 at least. they are doing a n64flix without the flagship title. maybe without the texture replacements? then again, maybe all the n64flix releases will have cleaned up textures like that. i can see them doing it with no gamecube/wiiflix for the other 2 for a long while. im more interested in how they will handling the filtering, just standard crt scanline mode or are they going all in with a VI filter option...

I have not heard anyone every claim it was good, either. But buy the bundle for the rest and judge for yourself. The other games are worth it for sure.

Also, it MIGHT'VE been System Shock 1, but this was also at a store that likely just carried old games as well as new. All I know is, I chose Fade to Black over one of the entries into the SS series. Also, Ashley Graham is fantastic, as far as escort missions go. Especially with that suit of armour

by virtue of the fact that they've clearly touched and messed with these, would games on the snes classic be any easier than others to port over to the switch? that gives you a nice package there.
