Regular mode is fine but at least when I last tried Survival mode it took a whole bunch of goes before I could find what I needed before the environment killed me, and that was as someone who had already played the game for tens of hours. Given that the hellishness of a planet is pretty much the first coin the procgen flips the game really should search out a nicer planet for new players to start.

Trailer and patch notes look awesome though, looking forward to playing.

Before this patch, a trip through a portal was a dead end- your ship could not warp to a new system when you got there, the only way out was to go back through the portal to where you had started. This has apparently now been lifted and you can warp on from the system you arrived in and never look back.

This was one of the last vestiges of the original concept that reaching the center of the galaxy was supposed to be a difficult and time-consuming ultimate goal, which I guess is something they are no longer interested in enforcing. It's easier in that you can now find portal coordinates to a system very close to the galactic core and just go there immediately, but they had already added other easier ways to do the same thing (finishing the Artemis storyline, specifically).

I dunno if it's a bug or intentional re-balancing, but they've definitely hosed with some of the resource quantities outside of just the mining beam stuff mentioned in the patch notes. On a fresh save, I'm getting huge amounts of condensed carbon from mining the crystals of it, and not the really big ones either since I don't even have the advanced laser yet. Like, 600+ after knocking out a handful of the medium-large ones you can mine with the basic laser. Hostile flora also seems to have been majorly amped up as well, the little pods you can grab from the explodey ones are giving 200+ oxygen per and the plant itself like 120, so if you grab all three and laser the plant you end up getting over 700 oxygen from one plant.

The portal interference also meant that you couldn't setup a base, or use teleporters, or call your freighter. I think it blocked you from accessing the space anomoly too.

Okay, I tried again. This time I got my scanner fixed, scanned once before it ran out of batteries and I died before finding the Na that I think will somehow protect me? Why is Sodium going to protect me and what drops it? lol

Edit: I mean poo poo, I've finished some loving stupid minecraft packs full of all kinds of dumb design decisions but I'm typically given an explanation as to why I'm dying.

2nd Edit: Ahh. Now that I've found some weird flower that yields sodium (wtf) it tells me why I was dying previously. Fantastic. I'm not sure why I found this so frustrating today, maybe I need to smoke more.

Oof, so my main base is intact other than the forest that was around it is completely changed. I prefer the pine tree looking things that's there now though. I haven't gone through all of my bases but I had an activated cadmium base on this very strange world that is now toast. The world had aggressive sentinels but it had these weird geometric shapes and a nice red/grey color scheme and these giant plants that had weird tentacles hanging down. Now it's a very hot volcano/fire planet. And my cadmium base is so far underground that it's below the dig limit, so it popped me out somewhere else on the planet after I teleported to it. :/ I hope they fix that. I flew back to my base icon and landed but I couldn't dig down to it. That sort of thing happened to my activated indium base too, but that wasn't below the dig limit so I was able to dig out.

The portal interference is gone and I was able to go through and build some bases. Weird bugs here. If you place a base computer the portal turns off automatically. But if you try to dial out of it, you can't. If you pick the option to dial an address it keeps going back to the option selection and not letting you progress further. I had an audio bug as well. I went back through a portal that was still open and got stuck listening to the rumbling sound for the rest of the game. Not even teleporting fixed it

Last time they 'removed' items they had them transform into some form of scrap with an equivalent monetary value so people who still had them could sell them on. If they're still there you probably can no longer construct them since the purpose of constructing them was to make other items and now they're not used for that.

Very quickly maxing slots on a new ship/freighter is a huge cash sink. Having money not be an object is also very good for farming nanites, since you don't need to be picky and can happily scrap every S/A/B ship that comes in regardless of how uneconomical it is. I'm not concerned with having my cash farm go from ~1.1b/day to ~110m/day. If I really wanted to Fight The Man then I could rig up another activated indium farm feeding into the same storage. I'll be more miffed with having the resource farms drop from 10k/hour to 1k/hour, since the entire point in getting them set up was to prepare for mass future crafting.

I checked the portal code that went to the s-class derelict freighter: https://nmsportals.github.io/#11FFEAF88739
It still does but I don't think it goes to the same planet or the planet has been changed. It's very different from what it was and there was a base just up the hill from the portal and neither the base nor the hill exist now. The s-class derelict freighter is still there and still has the same layout as it did. I'm not sure it has the same name but everything else about it is the same.

Oof. Loaded the game up for a minute and checked my indium farm. I have no idea what the production rate is because it's powered down. I'm producing a little under half the power previously generated, which would suck enough... but the power consumption for the extractors now scrolls off the field. I'm going to have to go use my newly-created refinery farm to make a shitload of chromatic and get to work on each farm adding enough power to offend god.

Also everything looks better and storms are amazing and I got sucked out the front door of my base into a tornado.

Ok, my home planet now has green grass, salvageable scrap and predators. The animals have completely changed and there’s a new planet in the system.

My activated indium farm now takes 44 hours to fill but still has sufficient power. I’m ok with that, I’m at the money cap anyway and I’m only spending money to upgrade exotic ships I find, so I only need to collect every so often anyway.

So I’ve started a new game, and drat, the opening is still a tedious slog. I forgot it railroaded you into base building so quickly rather than getting on with plot. You wake up, and instantly you’re gathering resources to make a small thing, and now more resources, and now different resources, etc. The game skirts around setting you up with any plot, preferring to get you into crafting before anything else. Now build a base computer on this hell world, and a small shack next to it.

So far I've seen a volcano (that erupted while I looked at it!), a few shooting stars, a butterfly-like creature that could land and fly away again, and something that looked like a wheel with two antenna sticking out.
