He abuses a tactic of addiction management; "only keep good people around you" to encourage his devotees to sever ties with friends and family who call them out when they try to assert that the pay gap isn't real and is powered by Marxists who will put you in campa (as per the gulag book) at the dinner table. All it takes is a mild disagreement, a simple dent in their flimsy argument. They are so easily triggered. The projection is incredible. For others who are wondering how to deal with this; you can't. No matter how solid your logic is, or carefully you pace a debate and use the tactics of "can you prove this?", it just tightens the screws. They soon get backed into a corner and will ignore you to survive. Despite Peterson being a drug addict, they still defend him as his self help tripe "helped". Or he got ill from cider giving him an auto immune disease. He *needed* the benzos to cope. It's like trying to get an alcoholic to stop because the booze gives them liquid courage and makes the shy nerd the life of the party. They just want their self esteem boosted and to not feel downtrodden by parents/work/life not working out. Your counter arguments gives them the fear they'll will undo all their work. The only time people seem to shift is when life hits rock bottom and reality hits. So being cancelled or publically shamed might work. But that usually can go very bad as the ideology is so hollow and the underlying depression still there, that it has proven fatal. (That poor kid who tried to own drag storytime).

It's a tragic situation as this should have been a chance for some serious soul seeking and perhaps learning how ignorance was driving his hate and surrounding oneself with groups that reinforce this doesn't help in the long run.

Whenever I see a post like that, I wonder about sympathy for the nazi’s victims. If this stunt had gone the way he wanted, he would have opened innocent people, including kids, up to violence. When a nazi dies, I mostly think about how many people are now safe from them.

One day, kind of out of the blue, my best friend of more than 15 years was like, "ah yeah you and your wife should have a kid. I went home and haven't interacted with him since. Just straight-up ghosted a dude I've been close friends with for years. Been almost a year and eventually his texts and such stopped.
