The Good Friends of Jackson Elias podcast has a guest lay some of it out. Not necessarily a deep dive into it but I found it really interesting to listen to.

Some media outlets are already calling it: https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/confirmed-covid-19-death-toll-hits-1-million-who-warns-its-an-underestimate/ar-BB19vY0v

That article also points out that the actual number of deaths had definitely exceeded one million already due to all the mystery 'excess deaths' in most countries that were hit by the virus, with some exceptions ....

quote:

An article in scientific journal Nature on September 1 which looked at excess death rates found far more people were dying than normal in the US, UK and parts of South America, but not all the deaths had been officially recorded as being due to COVID-19.

About 25 percent of excess deaths in the US this year haven't been attributed to COVID-19, for example; while New Zealand, which locked down hard in March and April, this year has had hundreds of fewer deaths than normal, with people likely not dying from things like car crashes and other accidents.

New Zealand has had 25 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 so far, placing us 171st in terms of deaths per capita according to Worldometer and 148th going by Johns Hopkins.

But seriously...if we've been swapping these viruses around for millennia, why is it that these outbreaks have seemingly only been happening during the last fifty years or so. Or do I have that totally wrong? It seems like mass diseases are accelerating.

This is from an entire week ago, but whatever, the thread moves slow now and I stand by this as being a good video on the subject.

The short of it is that infectious diseases are emerging because humans are coming into contact with animals in new and exciting ways, driven by population growth, changes in land use, and climate change.

Since I was beaten on the joke badly, I'll just say 149 new cases in Finland, the highest since the first wave was going strong.

Our government is planning on meeting to think about considering the possibility of maybe giving more suggestions. At some point.

The current thinking is that maybe bars won't be able to sell alcohol after midnight, because as we know COVID spreads through Gremlins rules.

what do you consider "a small fraction"?

5%? 0.0000000001%?

your position appears to be somewhat like "it's small, it doesn't matter". is this a correct interpretation?

do you think it's ok for 0.9 * 33,731,102 people world-wide to carry symptoms for years that impact their ability to lead full work lives, many of them in societies where not working means death?

are you certain, after 9 months into the pandemic, that these after effects do not meaningfully shorten the lives of the impacted people?
