Tendi should have just accepted the apology and forgave. I'm not sure what they were going for by having her meet her in the middle. It’s Star Trek. Every non-human race is a walking stereotype centred around one defining characteristic.

I was so unprepared for that episode. What a goddamn delight. My wife was confused by the extended approach sequence to the Cerritos so afterwards I showed her the inspiration from The Motion Picture and she nearly died laughing. What's the best site for enumerating all the Easter Eggs in Lower Decks episodes? Because that episode had a LOT MikeJF posted:Also, just from the next week preview: These are from that TNG episode where Data figured out they were sentient, right?

I'm a week behind but the trial episode for Episode 8 was very funny. It was nice to see both John DeLancie and also Kurtwood Smith back again. the Roga Danar joke was such a random deep cut at the beginning, but apparently the show writers frequently talk about that character in the writer's room for some reason

Tbf I also thought it was the British meat product... Like I knew it wasnt the intent just really unfortunate that it could be interpreted that way. Anyway that episode was fun. I laughed when he got takcled and someone screamed something in the background. Give nerds more low stakes shows please.

James Horner made a career out of plagiarizing Prokofiev and Shostakovich almost note-for-note (and then later plagiarizing himself), so the Lower Decks composer just swapping a note here and there is just keeping with tradition.

Roga Danar was a loving bad-rear end, more people should watch The Hunted. The Enterprise approach from The Motion Picture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xox2IVxvIJw God, it's even more ponderous than I remembered. Awesome!

In all honesty, the only thing I heard for the bleep was "Godspeed, ya crazy fucks," which I think fits perfectly with T'Ana's character so far. The other possibility didn't even occur to me, and I genuinely don't know if that marks me as not-prejudiced, or just... well, privileged. Still, the fact that the other F-word is even a possibility here is definitely an oversight by the writers. Somebody should have called that out before the final cut.

It just struck me: it's not an uncommon trope in SF and fantasy for a hero to have to face a personification of their dark side who points out all their worst flaws, and becomes a stronger person as a result of gaining self-knowledge. In this case, Mariner is her own dark side, and gains self-knowledge by having her reflection remind her of all her good aspects. I like it.

It's really nice to see so many people genuinely enjoying a Star Trek again. My kid gets up Thursday mornings to watch Lower Decks before school now. It's great. I really don't care for Discovery or Picard. Even if they were "good" it's not what I want from a Star Trek TV show anyway. It's nice to have a show that feels like it's for me.

Man, that lens flare porn! I loved it. I also dug the signatures thing at the very end. I forget which movie that was from, but I distinctly remember seeing that in the theater and thinking, "Well, it wasn't as good as Kahn, but it wasn't a horrible note for the movie franchise to go out on." I liked a lot of the jokes and all that, but the whole therapy aspect of it (other than Food Pun Bird) really felt a little too on-the-nose for me. I feel like the writers are still narrowing down what they want the show to be: reference humor, workplace sitcom (set in an established universe), or generic cartoon with morality plays. Whatever it was, it mostly worked for me.

It's a shame, too. Now that I think about it, that movie wasn't horrible. I especially like the one part where they're quoting Shakespeare, and the Klingon says something (I think about breathing room), and Kirk cites the quote, "Earth; Hitler; 1938."
