Also loud as hell. We just started allowing the pneumatic tube elevators in this State, and while they do indeed look great, they also completely drown out all sound when they're running. Also they get really dusty.

not sure, probably but just order it and if it moves around you can just buy one at the store I would highly recommend getting a wool rug though. Much easier to clean.

The Zillow search term of the day is "Mizner". Houses designed or inspired by Addison Mizner, early 20th century architect and bon vivant who built the city of Boca Raton and designed eclectic Mediterranean Revival-ish mansions for the rich and famous. He had a facility (Mizner Industries) where he manufactured and sold "pottery, roof and floor tile, period furniture, wicker, upholstering, repairing, antique millwork and hardware, bronze sash, wrought iron, stained and leaded glass windows, reconstructed and ornamental stone, and imitation marble"; his work therefore appears on many houses that he did not personally design. Mizner is possibly best known from the Stephen Sondheim musical Road Show loosely based on the life of him and his outlaw raconteur brother. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/8431-Immokolee-Rd-Fort-Pierce-FL-34951/47788873_zpid/ "Immokolee" (1930) https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/12-Lagomar-Rd-Palm-Beach-FL-33480/46846871_zpid/ a Palm Beach estate built in 1928 original folded linen paneling on the walls Some colorful Mizner tiling https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/170-Sands-Point-Rd-Sands-Point-NY-11050/31079697_zpid/ "White Hill" (1912), one of Mizner's early New York works with a more subdued, less Spanish-influenced style than his later work in Florida Brickwork on the fireplace matching the pattern of the parquet floors https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/125-S-Montgomery-Ave-Atlantic-City-NJ-08401/52661222_zpid/ "Casa de Felicidad" (1925) on the Atlantic City boardwalk. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a rectangular dining table similar to this discontinued table from Restoration Hardware? In particular, I like that the finish is very dark, more on the matte side, and that there is interesting detailing to the side and legs. Ideal table size is 73"-84" and I prefer to buy used or vintage when possible though not having much luck in my search. Someone on my local Craigslist is selling this RH table for $500 and I'm wondering if this isn't just the best way to go given the price point and environmental benefits of buying used. I still prefer the rectangular shape to this oval one, though. amethystbliss fucked around with this message at 23:45 on Oct 1, 2020 |

I think maybe “8 seater Victorian dining table” is as close as you’ll get, but they’ll all be shiny shiny varnished. Quite a time consuming DIY project to refinish, but doable. Or you could search for “oil / wax finished Victorian dining table”.

It's two big pieces - it's 84" but comes with a 20" leaf insert (full specs are here https://rh.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod150069&categoryId=cat8310006). For $500, it was too good of a deal to pass up and it's super heavy and gorgeous. Now I just need to find chairs - my MCM chairs look stupid and everything that seems like it will go feels too farmhouse-y. I'm leaning toward a combination of these. Is Soho Home stuff any good? I've never purchased from them before.

I have several pieces from West Elm and they’ve held up well, but there are also horror stories about some of their pieces (I think one couch in particular) just falling apart. Either way, I wouldn’t pay full price for any of their stuff - all of it will be cheaper on sale within a few weeks of looking at it if it isn’t already.

Is the best way to deal with a tile bathroom floor that's in good shape but just kind of ugly to just get a larger mat to cover most of it? Mine has that incredibly 2005 light yellow/orange/brown kind of mix. This mat would cover most of the area https://www.dwr.com/bath-bathroom-accessories/nodi-cotton-bathmat/2516273.html?lang=en_US Replacing the floor would also be expensive - having the tile painted is a thing right? Though I'm sure that's costly too, since they have to do all the prep work, remove the toilet, etc.

actionjackson posted:Is the best way to deal with a tile bathroom floor that's in good shape but just kind of ugly to just get a larger mat to cover most of it? Yeah, you get tile/tub refinisher and just paint over it. It's a little more labor intensive than painting a wall. You need to really clean the floor and apply an acidic solution so the paint adheres properly, but it's maybe half a day's work and then letting it dry over-night and you're done. Moving the toilet (also not hard) is optional; someday it might shift and you'll be able to see the unpainted part underneath, but you can also just loosen the bolts holding the toilet down and then have another person rock it out of the way so you can paint under it a little ways, enough that minor shifting isn't going to expose the old tile color.

Yes you have a nice mat or something to walk on, but what if you fall?

Went back to DWR to consult with someone and saw some pretty cool options. I didn't even realize the pendant lights had adjustable cord lengths! I think my most likely option for my kitchen is the IC pendant light from FLOS (but in black) or one of these, but I don't like the brass part this pablo pendant is really cool (pablo makes a ton of cool lights), mainly because you can move around the light to whatever angle you want and it will just stick there. it might be a bit too much for a kitchen though another cool pablo pendant the hay about a chairs were unfortunately VERY uncomfortable - it was incredibly rigid in the center of my back, almost painful. So it will probably be the eames dowel leg - I can see why this is so popular, it's incredibly comfortable and flexible. actionjackson fucked around with this message at 23:39 on Oct 3, 2020 |

How do you figure out the ideal frame size and spacing? I don't have an eye for any of that stuff. At all. I have a mess of different framed pieces and freestanding tchotchkes in all shapes and sizes, and I basically just used a tape measure and and a thick pencil to mark off spots for hanging and then double-checked against the individual items until I was happy with the arrangement.
