I mean, if you're a successful actress and you go out of the house in a skirt and without underwear, knowing that paparazzi are just waiting for opportunities like this and that it has happened many times before, then there's really nobody you can blame for it but yourself.
Co-op is more for the fun of loving around in the game world with a friend than it is for difficulty considerations, so it would probably be best to think of it that way. Dying Light isn't really the hardest of games to start with.

Yeah, if you don't already know anyone you'd want to play Dying Light co-op with, I would just leave it toggled off.

Yeah the transparent cynicism is annoying, but I try to remind myself that its an indicator of the societal zeitgeist that these companies feel compelled to pay lip service to human dignity, and that's a good thing overall

Smashing zombie heads with a friend in Dying Light is so much fun. Just back-to-back slashing away in the middle of a group of zombies until everything's dead is awesome. Plus you can see how hilarious the dropkick looks when watching someone else do it. It's a shame Dying Light 2 is basically stuck in the ether now last I checked.

One fun thing about playing it on an ultrawide monitor: the increased FOV means it looks like dropkick victims fly for miles and it's funny every time

This is why I don't like it.

It's like making Soldier 76 gay in a forum post and banning people for calling FL4K a male or female pronoun.

None of the above was planned in advance or in the story, and just thrown in there to win points and I think it's just hollow tokenism manufactured by crazy opportunistic Twitter people to fill a check mark.

The whole world has gone loving crazy. I can't wait to play Cyberpunk so the stuff I described above is everywhere, and my choices involve tearing it it down

I haven't played the game yet, do we know it's like that or was the person saying, "Hey, there's going to be a lot of discussion including from people who haven't played yet, so here is this character's pronouns so you can get it right."?

But yeah, if the only place you find out about something like that is Twitter then meh.

edit: oh, just now seeing your edit so I guess it is the case that it's just on Twitter or something. That's unfortunate. Serves me right for having optimism I guess. :P

it's possible that they wrote a nb character because they wanted to even though it is a AAA game

the problem is it has to go through a thousand hands and revisions

like how lara in TR reboot was supposed to be gay and it got squashed and then even in the comics it got micromanaged into a friendly hug

there has to be more authentic voices spearheading AAA projects and making these decisions and showing companies that you actually can do inclusion/representation right and it's not going to impact your sales negatively

but there's definitely a lot of behind the scenes fighting for it that we never get to see or hear about, at least if what has gone on in animation industry is anything to go by. people up top killing poo poo, sometimes to appease international markets, sometimes just because they think lgbt existence makes their audience uncomfortable. but if they do it in a brownie points way like having rainbow flag cosmetics, they can pretend like they were always for it, without actually allowing it into the creative process

For a lot of things like that in media representation sneaking in queer characters without making it obvious is almost the only way to make it work. And this is a Disney owned IP as well as Star Wars having a checkered history of queer representation in games.

The major execs at Ubisoft literally shut down games with female characters insisting "female PCs don't sell games" and AC Odyessy had to include the male PC later on because the original plan for a sole female PC was deemed too risky. All it takes is the one old guy at the top to make sweeping demands and wipe out anything other then a traditional male/female dynamic and even then it's often man=strong hero/female= victim to rescue

I thought in Tropico 3 at least you had US or Russian interests trying to buy you off for favors and whoever you picked/didn't pick would then try to destabilize your country with sabotage and riots.

See, it's easier to run a benevolent socialist state with some populist propaganda to stay in power than being a secret oppressive pinko threat! The interpretation still works!

Games Idiot Court Jester

I enjoyed playing Tropicos 3-5 (5 was free on PS+ lol) but they've always had the problem where, outside of gimmick levels, the key to victory is to make a rum factory or two (or tourism I guess) and rake in infinite dollars, and all the swiss bank account/dictator stuff is sort of just for the hell of it and doesn't matter in the face of your endless money geyser that can easily cover all expenses forever (and which you can siphon off eventually anyway). I've only had to care about a military outside a campaign level twice and that was because a disaster blew up a rum factory lol

Like, you could try and cancel elections, set up secret police, execute particular faction leaders, pump up the nationalist party, and build a military state that only just isn't getting blockaded, but you need to build the farms and factories anyway, so why would you? Presumably the swiss bank account is your real score but you can pump that up doing all the rest anyway, and 5 had that rolling campaign so you could gently caress yourself back in level 2 if you overdid it.

There's nothing wrong with it fundamentally though.

If I'm honest I just spent the between-missions stuff just staring intently at the incredible texture work on the pilot flight suits (and pretty much everything else)

The hardest mission in Tropico 3 for me was the one where you need a high happiness in a certain amount of years. It is quite easy to get an early army base to squash the initial rebellion and then never have to worry about any of that again once you get 50 all-round happiness. Which is just a case of listening to what the radio announcer tells you. There are multiple elements/mechanics in the game you can almost ignore if you just get a stable economy.

I know engaging with Guy Mann is a mistake, but here I go.

Guy, they are not complaining that gay/trans/NB characters exist, they are complaining that they never exist in any kind of overt or important way. If a character is gay, but only stated to be gay in outside materials and them being gay never actually enters in to a story in any way shape or form, that isn't inclusion. That's not respecting LGBTQ people, that's giving them the tiniest of scraps of inclusion so that they shut up, stop complaining and buy your product.

If the new star wars game's main character was a non-binary human, that'd be something. Or if Overwatch had Soldier 76 and Tracer actually acknowledge their sexuality in any way in-game in a way that couldn't be immediately and easily scrubbed for foreign audiences. It's a hollow gesture to say you support LGBTQ people while refusing to actually include them in any kind of significant way.
