Intruder posted:Didn't it turn out Shoeless Joe did in fact get paid off As far as I know he received money, yeah. His defenders claim he either didn't know what it was for or that rejected it and the mob forced it on him or he just took it and played well anyway. Hence the "narrative" it seems like people are trying to form around Altuve that he was complicit but personally innocent.

IcePhoenix posted:someone at some point did a breakdown of his at bats in the WS and he was absolutely putrid in any of them that mattered There's a number of articles about it, but it's basically true. Hit .375 with no errors, but also didn't hit well in the games that were thrown or only after the game was out of hand, and apparently played unusually lazy defense, allowing runners to advance, etc. Leads you to wonder just how drat good he was to be able to turn it on and off like that, but it's all moot to me. It's well known that he accepted money. Whether he threw a single play or not, one talk with one single reporter could have blown the whole thing wide open. gently caress him just as hard as Pete Rose.

Thinking about the 2018 draft... it's funny how pissed Giants fans were about missing the #1 pick and not getting Mize. Dude had a lousy rookie year: 7 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and looked pretty hittable, to me. Then again, Joey Bart hit .233 with no dingers and a ton of strikeouts. I'm sure they will both be good players, just funny to think about. Meanwhile, from that draft, Bohm and Madrigal are hitting up a storm so far. And uh, Kyler Murray ran for 78 yards last week

I fully expect the Angels to be all in on Bauer right up until he signs with San Diego. Then they'll pivot and sign, I dunno, Didi Gregorious.
