Well I guess my months-long saga of respiratory illness, kidney infections, and pissing blood comes to a head tomorrow. They’re cutting out my tonsils and I’m super not excited about it. I hear the recovery is excruciating at my age. I think it’ll be November before I’m 100% again.

The surgery sounds like it will suck but your symptoms seem fairly bad, so I'd say it's worth it?

Wasn't as bad as it looked thank God. Lots of blood, they did slice to the bone though. Just bits of skin hanging off so it looked a little Nightmare on Elm Street for a minute.

I keep on wondering how a work can so much drama... then I look at the poo poo I post in AI Slack and think yeaaaaaah now I know. And when you are a Sys_admin and you have to check logs and network reports you do get to see a lot of things esp in a huge company. Like someone searching for cum tributes. That tends to result in the inner BOFH awakening and putting in a network redirect to hint "Hey, dont do this...." Yeesh. Users.

I'm not a computer fondler professionally but I hang out with the tech and network guys at work a lot. My favorite story was when one of them found a meticulously organized folder full of high quality videos of women burping on a dudes workstation. Another lady has had to have her system reimaged three times due to pornsite malware. They're both in the same department filled with unassuming older librarians lol. It is nice knowing that they don't give a poo poo what I do online though as long as it's not crashing the network. I browse the forums and stream sports with impunity now.

And how much bleeding edge tech required to 'come' first. Well we are actually ancient so uhhhh very much not bleeding edge. And our data analytics team is atrocious and mostly revolves around comparing to a rolling 4 week period. We've been around for 25 years, we are pretty much last to 'come' to the table with any new features or anything really. Some of the interesting correlations to like world cup matches and around holidays that you might not expect are pretty funny though. Like Christmas eve is terrible for us, but Christmas night is one of the best nights of the year revenue wise. Also new years day night. Maksimus54 posted:Do you have an Ask/Tell thread? That sounds fascinating I do not. I am not sure how different it really is tbh. Just the content you get exposed to, especially on our 'dating' site

TheBacon posted:Trying being a sysadmin *for* a porn company. It really desensitizes you to many things. Yeah I can imagine. And over 30 years I've seen a *hell* of a lot - so TBH it kinda just washes over me. What really makes me WTF tho is that users, even competent younger users bought up on tech have no real comphension people like us have access to see *everything* - not that I care mostly, the place I work for is just too big, spans too many countries and has waaaaaay too many systems to be sitting on the gateways and niggling over every bit of porn access. We dont get the budget to do strict lockdowns anyway so meh. It's only when I see exceptions that I go check - usually someone consuming a lot of bandwidth or spending too much time - or specific machines that are supposed to be production controllers Whacking off at lunchtime or after hours? Oh whatever, I dont give a gently caress. A couple of hours watching MLP porn? Oh hey no you dont, you gonna get a senior sys admin and the CIO getting evil on your network redirects. Still aint gonna top one of my guys in PNG getting murdered in a witchcraft ritual that involved having his spine ripped out while still alive. Which by the report he somehow didnt die immediatly of, it took an hour. For some reason staff from Australia and NZ have had a ban on travel to PNG ever since
