I looked at some of the stuff in VNV. A bunch of the tweaks and gameplay changes (particularly the stuff in the stewie one) really look to me like stuff that just makes the game more annoying to play, rather than more interesting or actually difficult. Am I just a weak babby coward for thinking a lot of this is uninteresting and unfun?
The thing about the stewie is you can just... turn all that off, since it's controlled by an ini file. Every change it makes is something you can turn on or off.

Bogart posted:

Imo, download the INI Tweaks mod and then just pick the ones you like. There's a bunch of good stuff in there, but the VNV writer is antifun in that regard.

also download 'no fall damage' mods and never look back
that's a thing you can turn on in the stewie! there's an option for no fall damage period.

The version of jsawyer in viva new vegas also has an ini file where you can turn off some of the stuff. Or make it so you get a perk every level, or such.

And the "economy overhaul" which according to its description on Nexus effectively makes everything but armor and weapons much more expensive (because it makes those much cheaper and reduces the caps merchants have to trade, but doesn't change the price of anything else) can be disabled fine if you used the wabbajack install.

By using the VLV guide + 4K textures, I was somehow able to get a fantastic looking game that runs butter smooth with a consistent 100+ fps - the last bit being a thing that I did not think possible with a Fallout game, least of which FONV.

I drink only whole Tuscan milk.

Pfft, I not only did 100hrs without a crash I also ran the game at 5120x2880 native resolution with ultra ini tweaks at 144fps

I would imagine it would be like if you ragdolled normally. You just lose control until you're character is in a position to get back up.

Does anyone have any idea why the Mod Configuration Menu would flat out fail to show up on the pause screen? Google tells me that it won't show up if you don't have any mods that use it, but I'm running JSawyer Ultimate which explicitly requires it. This is all done through Mod Organizer 2 on the GOG version of the game, if that matters.

Do you have NVSE?

Did you make sure it's correctly installed?

NVSE
http://www.nvse.silverlock.org/

Troubleshooting on that page has a console command to make sure it's working.

Edit, it doesn't show up on the pause screen where it's blurry and just says pause, it shows up on the menu screen where you can manually save and change key bindings and what not.

It's probably in the .ini tweaks mod from iStewie

This drove me crazy last time I modded. JSawyer switched to an .ini file for changes and doesn't use Mod Organizer anymore. This is buried deep in one of the changelogs for one of the previous versions. I think the .ini file is in the NVSE folder like everything else.

If you used wabbackack the left panel has its own entry for the ini file. EDIT: but it doesn't say "ini" in it iirc, it says "config".

You need to enable iHUD managed stealth indicator in the MCM. The give tells you the few essential tweaks you need to set up for each save. Some can be ignored though, like disabling sprint jumping and holding your breath

It takes significantly longer to install a mod pack because you have to manually click through the dl process for each mod on top of being limited to 2mb/s

It's honestly worth just springing for a month of premium, Nexus is even one of the rate sites that don't automatically renew your sub when it runs out (by default; I think you can manually tell it to do so if you want though).

That's if you can afford it, of course. I know even that small expense can be a problem for some (hey, I'll gift you a month if you can't afford it, because I definitely can).

E: gift offer isn't unlimited, I'm not gonna pay for literally everyone in this thread, but I could do one or two people if desired.

Bleed is pretty good in my opinion. Definitely has it's flaws but I think it's worth giving a full shot. Just don't go above normal

NVTF or new Vegas tick fix let's you go way above 60fps fine. You just need to go into the NVTF.ini in mod organiser and set your max fps accordingly. I've got mine set to 162 so I stay on GSync with my 165hz panel, and my min at 40fps. It doesn't cap your fps, so you should do that in NVIDIA control panel and make sure to disable vsync in the falloutprefs.ini (bPresentInterval=0).

I used DSR to run the game at 4x resolution (1440p->5k). It's basically free on a modern card so I recommend it. Though due to an engine bug if you have a >60hz panel you'll need to enable the DSR resolution in NVIDIA control panel and set the refresh rate up before running the game.

It's important to note that if you follow the VNV Wabbajack guide you really need to follow the readme on Google drive because there's a few things like modifying the NVTF ini and also some in-game settings that you need to change to get it all working.

Second question: I would like to maintain a greater backlog of auto saves and maybe iterative saving, because it looks like the esp-less CASM alternative that VNV’s using doesn’t work (or at least, I don’t know how to set a proper full save hotkey via Stewie’s ini tweaks).

I dropped CASM into my load order and immediately got stuttering / hiccups when it activates. Anybody know how to use the system native to VNV so I can get rid of CASM?

Third Question: What’s a good VNV-friendly radio extender mod that generates empty slots in the rotation for you to fill yourself? I don’t relish a public domain country / folk dump and I don’t dig the EXISTENCE radio personality.

I used FNVRExtended in prior setups, which lets you add any number of your own songs to NVR as well as those from other stations / cut content like Rope Kid’s “Home On the Wastes”, but in VNV setup all its doing is adding the existing cut songs, not the custom ones. It even went so far as to auto-tailor versions of the custom tracks in mono so that they could play synced from diegetic radios and jukeboxes in the world. Something like that would be swell.

Maybe I just don’t know how to use that mod correctly with MO2’s data handling. Who knows

Seems the problem is the thing linked in the OP doesn't work, but when I searched I found a patcher that changes the base .exe instead of replacing it and that is fine. I installed everything with Vortex and also got FOMM since Vortex appears to suck.
