Left (or at least leftist twitter) sees grift as insincerity in the name of career climbing. Charlotte "everything that Bernie does is race-sexist but Biden is the first intersectional candidate" Clymmer, Eric "game theory" Garland, Joy "time traveling hackers" Reid. These all count as grifters. Liberals see grift as not playing by the traditional careerist rules. You gotta have the credentials and be an intern, then a regular writer, then a columnist. Any thing that bypasses this career track is grifting. Hence Chapo, Brie, etc. are all grifters in their eyes.
