So, does anybody have a list of no deal brexit implications? I've looked at the regular articles and the YellowHammer thing, but they are hilariously incomplete and most were done long ago. Like there are short term things that are obvious, but that shatner tweet made me realize there are gonna be 1000 lols on stuff folks didn't realize. I'm just in awe of the unpreparedness of it all.

Cross border pensions. The has EU laws to smooth out how pensions are tracked and earned in other countries. No deal means the UK won't be able to use these. So no guarantee you will get poo poo if you retire back to good ole blighty without extra charges added on.

communism bitch posted:I like that our multi-billion pound state of the art supercarriers are entirely dependent for their operational capability on "one support ship with limited capacity" that has already been in service for 26 years. And since the navy's surface capability is pathetically small already probably half the frigate and destroyed complement are going to be permanently tied up escorting whichever carrier is in the field at any give time. And instead of an AWACS airplane, probably because we didn't bother with a catapult, we put a conversion kit on a helicopter with a pod that spins out of the way so it can land*. Not that there's any advantage in the early warning aircraft having more range or speed. This country's obsession with doing things on the cheap drives me nuts. Australia has problems, but they do seem to at least spend the money on infrastructure where it needs to be spent. *To be fair, that's just the current CGI. There may well be further conceptual improvements, already the back door doesn't need to be open to dangle the radar out of anymore. Didn't... the americans already invent a helicopter with a recon package that sits above the rotor decades ago with the kiowa? Like I dunno if i was building a helicopter with a very expensive radar attached to it I would probably not bank on it getting out the way so I don't land on it. Maybe mount it in the tail boom and tell the pilot to spin in circles OwlFancier fucked around with this message at 02:46 on Oct 17, 2020 |

Our mighty Royal Navy currently has, I think, the grand total of 19 surface fighting ships, or which approximately half are currently available for service (the other half are being overhauled, repairs and maintenance etc). So to field an aircraft carrier group, we actually would need to deploy half of our seaworthy fleet, which would obviously be unsustainable in any serious, prolonged conflict.

Obviously the public sector is incapable or providing an efficient Naval service so clearly the solution is for HMS Serco to set sail.
