So now I take xanax daily and just try to power through. Man, I feel this so much. I was on track to gtfo in a week before this all came down on us. Everyday was a test. Drinking more than I ever had before, and for the first time, consistently actually at work just to keep myself from walking out. Was headed back to the city to take any job with less responsibility. I hope there's somehow you can escape that environment.

Got to work tonight and found out that the person I was supposed to be on the line with was out because his SO was positive, and the person replacing him and the owner are both symptomatic right now but won't test. I called the owner and he insisted he just had a cold, but if I wasn't comfortable to clock out and leave. So I clocked out and left. gently caress getting sick and infecting my wife and infant son for his bottom line. I don't know if I still have a job or not but I'm looking for a new one anyway.

You did the right thing. Even if he fires you, you've got a rock solid reason for leaving the next time you interview - and hopefully it will make the owner take this poo poo seriously, since it doesn't sound like that's the case currently.

My toxic idiot former boss did the stupid thing again where he finds his best server and screams at them and gets way too up in their face when he's mad about something else and spent the morning asking if I could pick up a few shifts because server a "left unexpectedly". I really want to let him twist but I haven't actually found a coding job yet so I'm back in for two more shifts because money. He's lost a lot of FOH recently and I'm not surprised at all.

Done with that job, done with the industry (kinda). I’m already in school to change careers, got an interview Monday to work at the nearby little organic grocery co-op that’s been super good about mask mandates, sanitizer, etc from the very beginning, even before the government told them they had to. I feel good about all of this.

There’s a good amount of opportunities in the field locally, both in medical fields and agriculture. My micro prof recently floated the idea of medical laboratory science specifically, but that would mean two more years of school (but also higher pay grade jobs). I’ve got time to decide on that.

Lol, this was totally me last week. Been on light duty (not lifting 60 lb buckets of grits) for a week since I have a doctor note. Politely asked a co worker if they could move something heavy for me. Got stinkeye. I loudly announced "or I could just do it and y'all can deal with your ace fry cook calling out tomorrow, on a Saturday, because my ribcage is hosed." That got results.

Benzos tend to start losing effectiveness, but have tolerance/dependence/withdrawal, and you can get yourself in an awful lot of trouble very easily. I’ve been a cook long enough to see someone abuse just about any drug you can think of, and beyond that am just naturally cautious after a misspent youth featuring my own addictions.

It took me a couple passes to get the story, once I did it was a fun anecdote that I enjoyed reading, but I do agree they would be more readable structured differently, even more extensive formatting would be nice. That said I am enjoying them and would like to see more.

Putting speech without quotation marks around it is interesting stylistically, but makes it extremely hard to follow who's saying what. I don't think the stylistic payoff is worth it. That aside I just did not understand that last exchange about the apple cubes, at all. From a story point of view I wanted to hear what happened with the Gatorade wine. Don't leave me hanging  Still, I'd like to read more.

Coco Chanel used to have a rule about getting dressed to go out, and then stopping at the door to leave one thing behind as a final edit. It’s a good thing to try and do as a writer, too. That doesn’t mean you can’t be descriptive or playful, but sometimes you need to write a sentence down to get it out of your brain as opposed to because it really needs to be in the final draft. The first priority is to tell the story, not impress the reader. Coco Chanel was also a nazi though.
