Follower tweaks works as intended, you can recruit every companion in the game but only have as many with you as CHAR/2

You have to make sure to actually dismiss a companion to either their home or the lucky38 so that their icon from Companion Command on the left disappears before you can ask a follower to come along. There is a short delay after dismissing a companion before you can ask another, you can wait or fast travel somewhere and back.

It's broken by the CC&C option in the mod configuration that is on by default that is called "unlimited companions", but that is instructed to be disabled in the end of the guide

A lot of the problems people have in here can be fixed just by reading the whole guide

Ruhest du auch.

I'm running jsawyer with NVSE and NVTF. I used FOMM to set my load order, which means I should be able to just ruin NVSE and Play from the stock launcher... yes? Or do I have to make FOMM use the NVSE .exe?

I'm just trying to make 100% my load order is being respected.

I think you need to tell FOMM to use NVSE, you can always check if NVSE is working by typing GetNVSEVersion in the console.

I'm planning to do a second playthrough in 1-2 months after I clear some more of my backlog. How hard is it to add mods to a VNV install? I want to add some of the SomeGuy quests mods, MoreMojave and Tammer's Weapon Pack to my load order

You did a super job wrapping things up! And I'm not just saying that because I have to!
As long as the mods you want to add don't specifically conflict with anything in VNV(mods will often have a compatibility list on the main page, and VNV is popular enough that I wouldn't be surprised if mods that are still being updated/maintained mention whether they work with it) you're all good

You can run the game through Steam. NVSE.ini has an option for steam community support, and it's enabled by default.

Because FOMM works by directly modifying the game folder, unlike most other launchers, you don't need to run through it at all

Counterpoint: by running VNV, you can spend less time tinkering and more time playing a version of the game that mostly works and might have a bunch of new poo poo to experience after these ten years.

Also, having strong opinions about how other people ought to play a single player game is pointless.

For Tammers make sure you install the update patch (4.5.1) from the main files and also "Patch for Hitman47101's Iron Sights Recoil Animations plus WRP" from the misc. Don't skip those or stuff will break

More mojave is cool but you'll need to regen your object LOD (with LODGen) or you'll have the odd broken visual

You need to launch via nvse_loader.exe. FOMM has a button to do so on the right side of the mod list. Install NVSE and FOMM oughta detect it automatically without any further work on your end.

Alternatively you can make a desktop shortcut to nvse_launcher.exe and launch the game that way too.

Don't touch the Data Files option in the stock launcher after you're set up as it's broken.

You don't need to do this anymore, as of a NVSE update a few years ago. Plus data files won't really do anything with a list of this size. It's not complex, just run the game through Steam.

Rope kid, make sure to set your fps min and max in the NVTF.ini

If your monitor is above 60Hz set the fmax to a few under your maximum refresh rate and cap your fps in the NVIDIA control panel so you can get that high fps experience without broken physics. (Make sure to set bPresentInterval=0 to disable engine vsync in fallout)

Run
code:

GetNVSEVersion
In the NV console to check that NVSE is initialised properly and then just play

Question for people that use Wabbajack: is it possible to download VNV and then use it as a basis for a modded playthrough and alter it to my liking, removing/adding mods?

It's possible, sure, but it's a bad idea. It's all assembled to run together, including custom merge patches and stuff, so you'd honestly probably spend more time adjusting to make things work than you would if you just do everything from scratch yourself.

The point of Wabbajack is to have an easy install process for curated mod lists that someone say down and configured to work together, so if you want extensive customisation it's not really the right path for you, unfortunately.

Adding mods that change things that aren't already changed by the wabbajack install should be mostly fine, replacing a texture mod should also be okay, just put it lower in the install order, removing mods from the wabbajack install is what would be most likely to screw you up.

If you're going to be heavily modifying it you're better off not using the wabbajack install.

Yeah, I meant to change it from default. It's the first thing I touch in each save and I don't open it again so I forget.

With it on iHUD disables the stock sneak indicator so it can replace it with an identical one tied to their scripts, which you set up in the other settings in the MCM. gently caress that noise tho

Fair Bear Maiden posted:

Yeah, it's a pretty good baseline. Better than starting from stock for a lot of people because it installs all the stability, performance and bugfix mods properly that are commonly messed up. If you need help adding or removing just ask, there is also a discord for the wabbajack install as well as a dedicated VNV discord full of people that know the ins and outs of compatibility.

The biggest thing that'll break things is Weapon Mesh Improvement Mod and Real Recoil, as they change every weapon mesh. Definitely easier to add things when compared to most of the massive Skyrim lists.

Eh, I figured I'd just do things following Viva New Vegas manually and ignore Wabbajack. Core installation was pretty painless all things considered, Graphics I'm following it *mostly* but avoiding the poo poo that looks bad to me (using the New Vegas 4k upscaled textures to supply the additional stuff that isn't covered) and I'm experimenting with New Vegas Reloaded which is fascinating when the shadows aren't flickering like crazy.

My latest playthrough was VNV through the graphics module on low. Added Charge's HD Textures instead of the AI Upscaled nonsense because I wasn't crazy about how the latter changed some textures outright.

I'm running New Vegas Reloaded (Nexus version) with the VNV preset from the nexus with most everything turned off (Godrays lol).

Also have Dynavision installed for good measure to tweak stuff in game.

Lastly, I'm running with Reshade on top of everything injecting the ray tracing and SBAO (?) shaders which looks pretty rad.

Game is old and much more fun when you're not trying to jam 10k textures into this engine, hah. NPCs still look like potatoes, graphics are still not "amazing" but the game is highly enjoyable in 2020, especially with jsawyer.

It does, but there's a bunch of other changes that Fallout 4's survival does that NV's hardcore doesn't, like making enemies (as well as the player) far less bullet-spongy, disabling fast travel, removing NPCs from the compass, making it harder to find PoIs via the compass (since they won't show up until you're practically on top of them), adding diseases, and a bunch of other stuff.

I figure pairing jsawyer with a couple of other mods is probably the way to go.

I'm very wary of BLEED and skipped it while installing Viva New Vegas to be honest. Seems like the sort of REALIIIISM!!!! mod that actually worsens the overall experience based on the description. If people want to sell me on it, though, feel free.

Speaking of weapons, there's apparently a *very* recently released mod that covers similar ground as Millennia's pack but feels a lot closer to the vanilla style. For the most part, I do like what Millennia's done and this presumably has a lot less patches for compatibility at the moment, but I do always disable his version of Maria, as it's flat-out more boring than the in-game lower-res version, so I'm glad to see that this mod has a more faithful retexture of it.

This was my read on it too. The Gameplay parts of the VNV guide really felt like the author going "I want to play STALKER so I'm installing New Vegas to accomplish it." BLEED really reads like the sort of mod that creates "rich get richer, poor get poorer" scenarios. So either you kick rear end and ignore all the scratch damage you take, or you die from three mantises and a radroach nibbling you to death.

I imagine the game is loving miserable during Dead Money thanks to BLEED.
