Ugh, I just watched that Contrapoints video and ugh. Ugh. If you're going to make a video like that you really can't have your Simplicio just present the most, well, simple arguments against your thesis. Not unless your intent is to sort of preach to the choir which I'm pretty sure was not the case here. It got me thinking more though, about why I will not be voting for Joe Biden, and while there are good tactical arguments to be made from the left, and just plain moral arguments that ought to apply to anyone, and also arguments from a harm reduction standpoint (Biden has a higher body count etc), there is also the plain fact that a Biden victory is not one that any leftist will be allowed to share in. Look at the treatment leftists have gotten from liberals this year before they've even won and try to form a convincing case that there is still a place for a Democratic left. The very idea of it just sounds ridiculous to me now. Don't get me wrong I don't think there is a place for a Democratic left regardless of the outcome of this election - like even if Biden loses I don't think liberals are going to try to accommodate the left as a reaction to that - but that's just all the more reason not to vote for them, to my mind. And that goes way beyond "NoJoe" as well: I can't imagine voting for any Democrat who isn't at least like an actual social democrat, ever again. And even that is a big, big lift. In fact I don't think I can vote for or support in any way, any politician who isn't some flavor of actual factual anti-capitalist and leftist, ever again.
