Brits also say "sport" instead of "sports". I like to think that's the extra 's' they put on "maths". Like some sort of "conservation of letters" principle or something.

I had no end of frustration when I was in a group that had weekly web conferences with a UK group, which heavily centered around discussing some technical parameters with Z in the name. We finally have up and just used the British pronunciation just to make things go smoothly without switching it every other sentence. Anyway, thank you for listening to my Z Talk.

I was looking through an art book lately and came across this Caravaggio:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacchus_(Caravaggio)

I noticed that you can see a little of the mattress that's hidden under the sheet. When I was a kid, old mattresses still used that same fabric covering, I remember when we threw out a bunch of them after a big household clearout by my grandparents.
I know modern mattresses don't use this blue/white striped covering anymore, but it just blows my mind that this material was in use and basically unchanged, for at least 500 years.

edit: on the 'go to bed'/'go to my bed' thing - is is a north of England thing maybe? I've heard people from that part of the world refer to their parent as 'me Dad' even when they are talking to one of their own siblings, which always sounds a little weird to me.

More importantly, Poe died and is buried here. Baltimore, it's a city that knows how to say, "Sorry 'bout that. Mind if we use your name, works, and image to promote ourselves?"

I'm from the north west of England, Lancashire/Greater Manchester area, and I have never said 'I'm going to my bed' just 'I'm off to bed' or 'I'm going to bed' or even 'time for bed!'
There are a lot of dialects across the north of England though, way more than people would think and the differences can be subtle to outside ears but every town basically has it's own dialect. I can't recall hearing any say 'going to my bed' though there are areas that would say 'my mum/mam' and 'my dad' (it sounds like 'me' just because of pronunciation). Around our way we call everyone 'our', so 'our mum' 'our dad' 'our kid' 'our Susan' etc but I think that's a Greater Manchester thing really.
I can recall elderly relatives from East Lancashire talking about people 'taking poorly' and that the person 'took to his/her bed' while they were ill.

I had thought that the difference between my accent and an American one was mostly just vowel shifts, but I just realised one instance where a vowel sound is just completely swapped.

Americans pronounce the first a in "aqua" the way I pronounce the a in "castle", and vice versa!

Headed out with my buddy to go check up on some property he has in the middle of nowhere. It's cold as poo poo (For Texas) tonight. Usually we just car camp, but he he called up a water park that has an attached camp ground. We're in a dope little tiny cabin that sleeps 6, with a shower, heat, TV, kitchenette, etc, for like $60. As far as I can tell we have the place to ourselves. When we got here, we had to call and have someone come from home to give us keys and a code.

Place is super cool and I never would have thought to call up shut down water parks in the middle of the week to snag a cabin.

My experience with so-called JRPGs and so-called computer RPGs in general is that absolutely no harmful spell that doesn't do direct damage via fire or whatever works at all, ever, against anyone. So I just completely ignore them in any such game.

e: If anyone knows a game where a "scare" or "confuse" type spell actually works on an enemy you actually can fight in the game, please tell me.

The Shin Megami Tensei series of JRPGs has a slew of buffs, debuffs, status effects, etc., that work really well on enemies.

Sleep is by far one of the most useful spells for most of the first Baldur's Gate

Confuse is pretty decent in Baldur's Gate II, too

However, like you I tend not to trust this type of spell either, and the safer bet is usually just to spam fireball twenty times.
