New Zealand would be more appropriate on two levels. We're not doing America-bad up here, but it's not great.

Maybe we should be the one closing the border to Canadians on this side of the country?

I feel like NZ, while they absolutely did a great job, started on 3rd base because of the small, isolated island on the bottom of the world. The real covid champs are the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who had 1100 cases and 35 deaths total, while being dead in the middle of the initial outbreak zone.

A lot of Subsaharan Africa did very well too. The fact that they still had the infra from the last ebola outbreak played a big role, as well, of course, the experience of dealing with other epidemics recently.

NZ had a combination of luck and really good management. Neither would've been enough on its own. We were one of the last countries in the world to get covid, so we could see what needed to be done and the population was on board because we were all looking at Italy, Iran and South Korea in horror. We also don't have any land borders so we can make sure that literally everyone who comes in goes through a two week managed isolation. But the government also acted really quickly and decisively, and has been using best evidence since on how to keep poo poo out. When we had a second outbreak of unknown source the govt decided within 12 hours to put Auckland (1/3 of the country's population) back into lockdown. The govt's response hasn't been perfect, for example they weren't routinely testing border workers or staff at the managed isolation facilities until we had a second outbreak, which kinda boggles the mind in terms of how did they not think to do that. But otherwise yeah NZ did well. But also lol @ the idea the not letting rich Americans in. Our previous (right wing) government set up a system that let rich people buy citizenship. It even made an exception to that system to let Peter Thiel buy his citizenship. So we can't really keep some of you out, like legally

But only the males are venomous, and I'm no platytologist, but I don't think the males lay eggs or produce milk. Edit: Also, the female platypus doesn't have standard "milk glands and breasts/teets" like other mammals, they're more interspersed throughout her body and it kind of comes out like sweat.
