Well, I think I'm gonna give up on Moriarty. Not because of the gravity of the crimes -- that's A-OK -- but because it is just so lazily written. The fact that a noble might come to look upon high society with contempt and betray his family in the name of destroying it should have been an interesting premise, but what makes this particular noble think differently from all the rest? What life experiences shaped him to the point where not only would he reject a society that places him on a pedestal, but he would go as far as murdering his own family to do it? Without even shedding a tear? The anime doesn't even attempt to deliver any answers to these questions. So far, the show just assumes that he has the same perspective as a person raised in a 21st century 'enlightened' world where nobility is seen as a foolish relic of the past, despite him being raised in a setting where it isn't. And every single character's dialogue is so shallow and two-dimension that they may as well be screaming "This is my role in the story! That you are watching! On your computer!" The characters have all the depth and nuance of that "Haha they're poor!" British royalty meme. I might check out the manga because it sounds like the scenes had more weight and that maybe this was just a neutered adaptation. Maybe. When I feel like it.

Well we do see that at the time there's a fad of the rich performing charity to make themselves look enlightened so it could be he started his charity work at the school for the reason and then was radicalised as he witnessed the sheer disparity between his life and the lower classes. Also his brother being a complete psychopath probably helped to really underline the point.

But I mean, if thats the issue that breaks your immersion into "Moriarty as a pretty blonde anime Dexter" that's fair enough. I kind of got the impression the whole set up is just a way to justify them making his hot younger brother act like his Butler, which obviously would make zero sense if they were really upper class.

If your complaint is that Albert is too anachronistic, then a better complaint of anachronism is that there is absolutely zero mention of Marx and Engels and socialism and the revolutions of '48 and these later developments in class solidarity and the political economy. Instead it is frozen in time from the French Revolution's simpler values of gently caress the ancien regime. But this story was written in 21st century Japan, by and for a society that has deliberately suppressed the left, and are clumsily grasping at metaphors to get across their dissatisfaction with the status quo. And 19th century British nobles are truly loathesome, which fits the metaphor. It is at least a start.

That'd be an interesting journey series; Just something like Kino's Journey, watching a protagonist travel from place-to-place as they see the sights and engage with the locals... and it's not until the end of each story you're made to remember they're actually a serial killer as someone gets Dexter'ed or just a straight tragic end for being around the protagonist when their hungry for stabbing.

I think it was a bad idea to only have Yashahime be 24 episodes; it should be at least 52. I like the girls a lot, but I feel like we're missing conversations that we should be seeing (like Kohaku and Kaede wondering who Towa is once she arrives in the feudal era) because they don't have enough time to spend on it.

To be somewhat fair. Kyoya is really suspicious of her, but has no proof or understanding why she would do this stuff. And the rest of the kids are just stupid kids.

We'll have to find a new guitarist.
I can somewhat understand this latest one? Person sees the future, sees that he's attacked, and uses it to blackmail out of impulse. He thinks the future is absolute, so as long as he can defend against the attack that is going to happen, he's fine, and another picture proves it in his mind.

Granted, it was an absolute stupid idea to sleep with her around, but he's just a teenage kid?

I am rather creeped out by him though, and was rooting for Nana throughout.

To date:
Nanao - completely off guard, and first kill so didn't realize what's going on.
Shibusawa - overconfident in his ability, and even me as the viewer didn't see the kill coming.
Michiru - been bullied her entire life, Nana is the only one close to her, she has no reason to suspect anything.
Kyouya - knows what's going on, but has no idea why it's going on, and no way to get evidence, because school is on Nana's side rather than his.

Maybe it's going to be like a modern adaptation of ongoing big manga in that it doesn't need to go on forever and might just work on doing 2 cours every year/year and a half, like MHA or Haikyuu.

yeah that was another Elaina episode I didn't really 'get', like there's a message in there about not considering certain jobs menial or looking down on them but it just kinda threw it out there toward the end rather than building around it. I don't think the show has a firm handle on meaningful episodic storytelling whether it's at the source material or adaptation level. kinda disappointing after the first couple episodes had clear messages that they delivered well, everything since has been clumsy in one way or another.

The first episode made me really sympathize with Elaina, but everything else has been a big mess of "oh this is interesting! I'll watch it and do nothing!"

Like the zombie flowers -- oh hey dude you look like you're infected and in pure agony. Guess I'll be on my merry while a loving apocalypse heads to town! Man the world is full of interesting things!"

Or

Yeah, guess this middle schooler is a slave and might at some point get sexually assaulted by the rich bastard owner... but boy is his son just over the moon for her! It'll all work out! *remembers a story where a similar person loving killed themselves out of despair*

Right, but we're not really given anything other than "man, is this hosed up or what".

yeah based on everything ive seen from the source novels this just seems like, an exceptionally poorly executed adaptation writing-wise since while the novels dont seem to be perfect they seem to at least address every criticism that is being made.

I think changing the order so that having 3 of the darker stories back to back early on was probably a poor decision too. Cause outta vol 1, I think those are the darkest stories while the rest is more cheerful or light hearted, so now people are just gonna be primed in assuming another shoe is gonna drop for the upcoming countries she goes to now. Though to be fair, there's still countries with weird customs that end up having hosed up reasons, but sometimes countries just be weird.

I think the idea is that having his power prove (to him) that he lives in a reality of total pre-destination broke his brain. If his actions seem stupid and reckless it's cause he basically thinks his actions make no difference to his personal safety. Dumb, but makes sense from his perspective.

I'm writing that because youre a moderator, and there is confusion about the rules but bascially FYAD is where accounts go to die so someone can pay "something awful llc" another 10 dollars to go back to normal and reset their regdate and username.

Getter Robo, as penned by Ishikawa, the original mangaka, consists of five arcs.

Getter Robo
Getter Robo G
Shin Getter Robo
Getter Robo Go
Getter Robo Arc

Getter Robo Arc ended when the magazine it was running in went defunct in 2002. Ishikawa intended to get back to it, but he passed away in 2006.

Spoilers for Arc and, presumably, the anime: To make a long story short, the Getter Robo series is basically the struggles of humanity and the Getter Team against a variety of alien and non-human threats. Getter Robo Arc concerns the Andromeda Country, a large time-traveling race of insectoid aliens with technology far beyond that of even the Getters. (Since, you know, time travel.) Arc's ending involves a teammate betraying the Getter team, reviving one of their previous antagonists, and launching an assault on the world. The Getter is destroyed, but the Shin Getter from, well, Shin Getter, which was sacrificed to defeat the antagonists of that series, rises out of its years long slumber in one last gasp -

And then the manga ends on that forever.

Barring some massive twist Ishikawa had in mind it's not too hard to speculate where things probably would have gone, the narrative throughline from there is mostly clear and its just a matter of if you want a 'heroic sacrifice' type ending or a 'and the day was saved' type ending, and whether or not the guy who betrayed them gets redeemed (and given Ishikawa's writing tendencies you can stab at 'sacrifice' and 'he redeems himself through some kind of noble sacrifice') but yeah, it's a pretyt huge cliffhanger.
