It'll make sense, eventually.
A quick guide to all of Polish politics in the last 30 years (insert any hot button issue of choice):

1. Doing things to either please or spite the church (this parameter is 100% of what defines your platform as leftist or conservative)
2. Taboo on ever calling anything leftist or (god forbid) socialist, because spooky scary soviets (this includes, for example, never using the word "party" in a political party's name)
3. Never outgrowing the reaganist enthusiasm of the 90s (one might consider point #2 its direct offspring)
4. Political leaders basing their policies on personal friendships and grudges with people they've encountered when politically active around 1988-1992

and for a populist special:
5. Willingness to import whatever the big social topic is in the US, several years late and with zero understanding of it or surrounding discourse (not that it'd stop anyone from instapicking their stances along partisan lines)

I don't know if it's that easy. Going to Germany means high travel expenses and a substantial language barrier. Poles from a lower socio-economic class might be plain locked out of professional abortions.

Those clinics will have a polish speaking staff on site, just like most dentist offices and all hotels in the Western part of Poland has German speaker present. Same will happen in Slovakia and Czechia. And Warsaw-Berlin is like 50 Eur per person. Probably double that from some further city.

Yeah, just like Mexican border towns made servicing American health care refugees part of the economy, Slovak abortion clinics organize shuttle bus rides that will take you straight from Krakow to the procedure with a woman behind the wheel. Ironically, PiS's child support cash infusion centrists hate so much might help cover this

I really hope you are right, but I'm really sceptical that it's gonna be that easy. I looked up what an abortion costs in Germany and it ranges from 350-700 EUR. Insurance only pays in cases of rape or if there is a medical reason(but if you are low-income, a German resident can ask the state to reimburse them later) I don't know how it works in Poland, but I'm sceptical that someone on welfare there can easily just cough up 700 EUR on the spot. And if abortions are illegal, what are the chances that their insurance will cover it? I think the whole situation is a huge disaster for low income women.

Also, how is a two way ticket from Warsaw to Berlin 50 EUR? There is not a single ICE connection in all of Germany that is that cheap :stare:

Low fare bus lines - not really viable when you need to get an abortion as you have to buy a ticket way in advance

Ah ok, I didn't even think of buses. Just the driving part would be something like 16h then? With traffic and everything I guess you would have to take the midnight bus and then be back home 24h later? That's quite an adventure.

(I mean I know that Czechia is probably where most people will go and Germany isn't even that relevant. Just saying.)

Warsaw-Berlin ticket for today is 99 PLN on flixbus page (~22 EUR) and I don't see any hidden fees. Might be last minute price, but I guess round trip would be 100 Eur at most. And it looks to take 9h. And I imagine some non-profits would help financing the procedure.

Absolute clown.
Buses are uniformly cheaper than any other option, there are no hidden fees. It’s just that a train takes 6 hours instead of 9, and won’t disintegrate your rear end

Poles can come to Ukraine for abortions whenever the lockdowns are over, the language is less of a problem. The Polish government is crazy about passing extreme laws during this time of unrest in the whole loving world. People are on edge from the lockdowns and will rise against anything right now.

Well legally speaking they didn't pass any laws, you know, it was the :airquote: independent judiciary :airquote: and the government has no choice in the matter, don't you know. Oh sure yeah it's the court PiS packed with party loyalists, but it says right here on this piece of paper that it's independent and its rulings are final, so nothing to be done, all out of our hands.

This was genuinely the galaxy brain plan they had. The cultists from Ordo Iuris convinced PiS that they could avoid protests by using a technicality to wash their hands of the abortion ban. As if people would just go "whoops, got me there haha" and accept it.

(Also I keep saying this but jfc if your organization has a name as sinister sounding as Ordo Iuris, how do you not have a "Hans, are we the baddies" moment)

Polish minister of health announced today that a mysterious campaign by agents unknown is afoot, where free COVID hospital beds are being hidden from the government by hospital management. To combat this, he requested the minister of defense to direct an active soldier to every hospital to independently verify the amount of beds and patients every three hours to a central repository.

Today Lukashenko ordered to close borders for everyone. Not just foreigners, everyone, including Belarusians.

'I've ordered the commander of the border troops to decline entry not just to people with foreign passports, but also those Belarusian 'brainiacs' who left the country in these trying times.'

Not clear yet if this is going to be enforced on the Russia-Belarus border. There's roughly a million of Belarusians working and studying in Russia, and about half a million elsewhere.

Incoming only, probably. There are very few countries that even allow entry from Belarus right now, but also who the hell knows anymore. It's utterly unconstitutional either way.

Also, Parkinson's is a usually a rather slow progressive disease that can take years if not decades (the average life span after onset is 23.3 years at this point). I know people who continued to work with it even while symptomatic.

If he is able to walk around normally I don't know he would resign considering this is Putin we can talking about.

(Also there are certain things like essential tremors that can look like Parkinson's disease (shaking while picking up an object for example) but isn't actually such.

Can Putin even retire in a meaningful way at this point? I don't see him being able to conjure up a successor that he won't have to exercise control and influence over in short order at this time, don't know how long he'd need but I imagine at least a couple of years, unless he wants his potential retirement (I'm not going to buy into the rumor at this point, so I don't think it's happening) to essentially be meaningless.

It took Yeltsyn about a year to make Putin his successor. But I'm highly suspicious of any health-related rumours. If even half of them were true, both Putin and Lukashenko would have been dead five times over.

Meh, I don't think he would leave even if he was half-senile and confined to a wheelchair. Autocrats usually don't give up power and there are unfounded rumors every time he disappears for a while to get a new facelift or botox injection.
