A more contemporary example: But yeah Facebook groups flip all the time and it's done to rack up engagements and (I assume) generate money from hate clicks or whatever.

It's super weird it took this long to reach a decision and for the decision to be "you're fired." When he wasn't fired immediately I assumed he would be fine and they were just pretending to do an investigation for PR cover. Makes me think either what happened was much worse than initially reported, or he's got some pretty big skeletons in his closet.
