AbstractNapper posted:He makes lots of valid points. He will never see it. If it was posted to his own forum it would be deleted. Silence the questionable thoughts and hide all the reality. The best news though is that the dude is being treated like a publisher. Pretty sure CR siphoned tons of MS money away into other things besides the project (movies), over complicated Freelancer to the point it could never be finished, and ultimately had to be fired by MS so the project could be finished. I mean... he is treating them exactly how he treated his publishers. It's just that he's not a very good guy when it comes to how he treats those people. I'm sure in the dudes head he figured "treatment like a publisher" implied openness, honesty, and timeliness within a budget and delivery as promised (within reason). And totally not the reality of CRs last publisher fiasco.

I think its funny that Old Republic with nearly 100% voice acting didnt cost nearly as much as Star Citizen with its.... uhhh....things. Yeah the upcoming Elite expac is getting me back in as well, and I'm sure it will be as dull as every non-combat thing in Elite.

Blue On Blue posted:Such a busy month No, that's actually another one of their super important posts to indicate the game is finished and they are kind enough to add content to it. I'm pretty sure everybody high on the totem at CIG acknowledges the game is 100% released and live and ranking in scads of money, and they are treating it like maintenance upkeep. One day somebody like CR is just going to flat out tell people the game has been out for years and to deal with it and have fun. I only hope it's also coming with a request to fund his next project also. I would have to ask Mirificus if there was ever any tweets or stuff that totally indicated Star Citizen is very much early in development and you should only buy in if you want to fund a project basically still in early development, despite being years and years in. CIGs programming prowess will never keep up with their art and marketing departments.

This is very much like those projects where an artist goes off to make a game. I'm not going to beat artists down because I did that also before, but there's a big difference between building a model and then making that model do something in a game and act properly. It's why SC is a great screenshot simulator. But when you see it in action, that space ship turned into a gun, the car is juddering off into the atmosphere, that spaceman is dead because he walked, and the guy making a jailbreak is now falling through the planet. It looks great, but you have to only take a picture of it. Don't make a gif out of your jpeg simulator.

And I mean heck, CR is so into his own game I just love watching all the videos where he's interacting with some random player who happened to run into- Oh wait that never happens and there's never been any YouTube videos or pictures of people posting "look at me playing with the Chris roberts!!!!" and the one time he did play it he could barely use a computer, didn't realize how terrible the chat system was until he saw it there for the first time and bashed it, and the game crashes while all he could do was shout for a computer savvy tech to come save him from himself. I know I'm digging into my wallet because this is the game CR always wanted to play and knows it inside and out like the back of his physics-programming hand!

Pixelate posted:Inside Star Citizen: Air of Refinement | Fall 2020 Outside of the fancy graphics, this looks like somebody trying to make guns for the first time. Looks like they are using line traces for gunshots too, not super fidelitous of them but it works. There's just no point to calculating for bullet drop with the pips, and the only critical factor is range and anything between me and the target that would block the line trace call. Overall a line trace is not something I'd expect a game trying to be a simulation would use, but at this point it doesn't matter. I'm not even sure why people give a drat about sniper scopes in their stupid space ship game. The only logical conclusion is that FPS ground battles are easier to get working in CryEngine (duh) than adding stuff to the space side of the game. So do what you can do to add as much of everything from every game ever into your one game and hopefully some magic will happen and out will pop a great game from the mishmash of tutorials you've plugged into it.

Also the AI is completely non-reactive. It's pretty bad for a game that's near a decade in development. I'd expect something closer to Metal Gear V levels of AI by now. But I guess the bartender pipelines haven't been kicked in to the combat side yet I don't know.

so they just zoom in the entire screen and mask out everything that isn't the scope? and there is a visor between you and the scope, and water is falling on it, but thats not zoomed in? i hate doing this because it feels like im putting more thought into cig's stupid game than they do. but how about 900 years in the future, the glass on your visor can have AR display elements connected to your gun? like, that exists now.
