Need help from this thread again, this time with my tv room.

Here's what it looks like now.

I believe the current layout looks the best and is the best for hosting. The only issue is that watching TV sorta sucks (also my couch is a piece of poo poo). I'm thinking the best solution would be to keep the same layout and get a small sectional to replace my couch. But I'm open to other ideas.

I read "fist fight" as in an unlicensed boxing/MMA fight.

It works for that as well if you put the ring where the couches are, with plenty of room for triads, saudi princes and italian mob members to cheer and throw money from the overlooking balconies.

House I used to live in had 10ft+ high ceilings, so we had an airer in the dining room for drying washing, that was a bit like that. It was great and I miss it. Ladder held up with coat hangers is a bit weird though. Maybe it's not even for pots, maybe they just needed somewhere to store it?

The house where I grew up is now up for sale, and rather than it being beaten to poo poo, all the wallpaper peeling off and the windows falling out due to us not being able to afford to fix anything, stipped down to the brick, given to a designer and *designed* to within an inch of it's life, it's very weird. There's also a ladder in every room.

Dug up this crusty old post, I mentioned somewhere between then and now that I found https://inspiredkitchendesign.com/ which does design for you for a few hundred bucks. Someone chimed in that they were curious how they did, here's the first draft, I apparently get two more to refine layout, colours, etc. I really didnt ask for anything colour wise, I dont mind the dark/white cabinet combo but definitely don't like the countertops.

All that I really asked for was for an island and to move the fridge. More or less the full thing here: https://imgur.com/a/m3bsYuC.

I've kinda taped out my floor to see if the spacing around island is ok or not. "the internet" says 36" to 42", most of the spaces are 36" in this diagram. Curious if anyone has this narrow of a walkway around a kitchen island and how sucky it is or isn't?

My fridge is annoyingly huge, the gap between fridge and island is a few inches short of that, my thought is if it really sucks, i'll replace the fridge later. It's french door so at least its not a huge door swinging out.

In my continued attempt to get advice from the internet, here's what I got back when I scrapped the island to keep with a peninsula. I think it looks good, but the peninsula was moved 2' to the "left" which now creates an issue with the existing Can lights (which I intend to convert to pendants). Also the area above this is finished and the joists run vertically, so I can't really 'seal up' the old ceiling holes.

The current peninsula more or less lines up with the wall section poking out of bottom middle to the left of fridge.

My opinion is that it seems fine, but now the kitchen is even bigger, which seems unnecessary. On the plus side, I suppose i could live my island dream by getting a temp cart thing and putting it there should I really want to.

I however value the opion of people on the internet for some reason, so curious if anyone noting anything majorly wrong with this. Other than the lights, i'm really not. There is still room for a dinging table and likely a sideboard way to the left should I want to do that at some point.

That's definitely an improvement!

The only thing I'm noticing is that the fridge is sticking out quite a bit, but I think that's just a consequence of having a side wall that only comes out 21" from the wall.

Is that grey wall on the diagram that comes out 21" already there? Otherwise I think it would look a lot better if it came our further to line up with the front of the fridge, and then have the cabinets come out that much as well so everything is flush.

also the can lights (I assume these are like pendants) should be hanging above the countertop where the stools are - two should be plenty.

The walls are already there, and not planning on going deep enough to move walls around. I have things taped off mostly right here.

Fridge definitely sticks out a lot, its because the fridge is a big boi. If its godawful i'll replace it with a counter depth.. after 2021 or something.

As for lights, I intend to convert to pendants but that's the problem, they're over the current counter, not over the new counter. the 'dashes' in my taping indicates where the counter will go to, the solid lines are lower cabinets. Moving them 'left' seems really hard and from what I can read, I have to leave access to the old junction boxes in old locations so it may look sorta like crap if/when moved. I suppose I could put up hooks and dangle/hang them to the side but I dont think that will look great with pendant lights.

Also curious if anyone has thoughts on a floor colour or type to redo the kitchen- I'm keeping the wood floor that's on both sides of it. I'd like to avoid 'fake wood pergo/LVP' stuff since there's actual real wood next to it.
