Just like passwords locks don't make breaking in impossible, they just make ti take a bit longer and less convenient. The primary purpose of a lock is to keep confused drunks and stupid kids out of your residence. Which they do remarkably well.

A lock acts primarily as a deterrent, oftentimes simply by existing and looking like a lock even if it's a piece of poo poo you could rake open in 2-3 seconds with a properly bent paperclip. Master locks are well known to be complete dogshit but it doesn't really matter in the vast majority of cases where you'd be using one to prevent petty, opportunistic theft. If a guy walks past a bike rack looking for an easy score and sees two bikes: one secured with a $10,000 ultra pick/destruction-proof swiss mega lock, and one with a $10 master lock, they're probably not going to bother with either because they were just hoping to find one not locked up they could ride off on. Having said that what really scares me is all the gun safes he shows on the channel that are completely an inexcusably compromised.

Yeah, you only really have to worry about the locks where he shows a massive security flaw where you can just pop a part off and it opens. Not so much the ones where he uses some custom built tool that only he and Bosnian Bill have.

I have never known a robbery where lock picking was involved. It's always been kicking down an entrance, forcing the material, open windows, bolt cutters or just not locked at all. Lock picking is a hobby for comfortably middle class people. You never need to ever worry about a lock being picked.

The twitter obsession with follower counts is so bizarre. It’s like everyone is simultaneously chasing fame and contemptuous of the idea of fame. I get that it’s bad if a million anonymous nazis start calling your job or hack your bank account, but who cares if someone has five or a million followers if it’s a twitter account? 90% of it is just hiding from real socialization and wasting time.

I think she made the point that these people were digging up 17 year old Hollywood divorce drama that has nothing to do with them to own buck and contra by association, which is definitely weird tbh. I don't like buck angel at all and that sounds like it was a truly lovely thing to do but still

I think he's made the point before that he tries to take into account the purpose of the lock when doing an actual review. He usually reserves getting actually mad for terrible gun locks (and there are so many terrible gun locks), or the last time it came up in this thread there was an angry video about a terrible boat or tool trailer lock, since those trailers actually are a big target for theft and need a solid enough lock that takes more than a few seconds to pick. But it is unnerving to see some "super secure unpickable lock" get defeated in a couple minutes though. But that video was also a crazy turn when it became the equivalent of a hacker releasing a vulnerability.

I really liked his video on booting because it was like, hey here are a couple cheap tools you can grab and keep in your car in case you get unlucky and somebody tries to pull the boot scam on you, because if you know what you're doing those things come off in like 10 seconds.
