Yeah it's hard to blame Sorey for a lot of things until close to the end of the game because Lailah is calling every one of the shots. By the time he decides to seal himself away he's been trained to shut Rose and Alisha out of it without Lailah's intervention.

I mean if you're considering non-main series, Emil actively made me stop playing two chapters in.
|
# ? Nov 15, 2020 18:26 |

You missed out then, Emil is a good kid and has a way better story than the game deserves
|
# ? Nov 15, 2020 19:10 |
|
Yeah Emil is fine and there's pretty good story justification for why he is how he is to start the game. It's kind of a Luke situation where it takes a long time for his arc to unfold and him to really grow into his own as a character. Symphonia 2 has a lot of problems but Emil isn't one of them. Also JYB's "dark" Emil voice is funny as gently caress and burned into my brain forever.
|
# ? Nov 15, 2020 20:46 |
|
Eh, the problem is that if the game isn't compelling enough for me to get to the point that Emil turns around, then there's not much to get me invested in his growth arc. If Emil was dropped into a game like Graces or Berseria where at least there's a decent combat system or supporting cast, then maybe I could have toughed it out, but as is, it's like saying 'the game's really good guys! You just have to wade through 2/3rds of it!'.

I think it might be Reid? Something seems off though
|
# ? Nov 16, 2020 04:58 |

It's almost definitely Reid, he has the same hair and skin color so if it's not him it's some kind of deep cut from Mobile and they don't usually put those on events like these.

I mean, the people in front of him are Leon and Reid, but I think they're referring to the other two people in the middle row. I think one of them is from one of the Japanese only R remakes?

I'm pretty sure the guy to the left of Luke with that hairstyle is Walter, from Tales of Legendia. I dunno why he and Tilkis are there, but I guess it's cool they're getting some love on official work. e: in the link to the merch it confirms that. Walter and Tilkis on little pin... things. I know Walter is weirdly popular in a lot of the fan polls relative to how much he actually does in the game he's from, but I don't think I've seen anything about Tilkis ever, so I'm curious why he's being featured. I’m totally up for a new Tales game, even if it ends up being one of the relatively worse ones.

Crestoria is still pretty decent even if a turn-based gacha game is multiple layers of Tales heresy. I have acquired the Captain role of a (the?) goon guild by virtue of being one of two members who have logged in since October. If anyone wants in, search for 875-767-111 and I'll make sure there's room for you.

Yeah, it feels like they put all their effort into giving the game an interesting premise, and then made the gameplay a complete afterthought. I really don't see the logic in going through the effort of updating all the character models, when all they end up doing is stand there most of the time. Their mobile strategy seems really weird in general Aren't there like three cocurrent Tales gachas going on right now?
|
# ? Dec 22, 2020 01:01 |

Crestoria feels pretty bad even among gachas. It's got tons of stuff to grind for and you don't get any decent xp from the story, so you can't even just set it so you only have to pay attention to the cast (which is a shame because the English script in particular is sparkling).
|
# ? Dec 22, 2020 01:21 |
|
According to my brother that still plays Crestoria there has still not even been any changes to the optimization or to the parts of the gameplay that needed attention (one of the debuffs straight up didn't work at launch and still doesn't so i think it's your main bad guy character Viscious that is bad to use because of it?) I would totally play this game if it were an actual full released game though. But i guess a gatcha is easier/cheaper to make than even something like the old escort series games used to be like.

I'd like for Namco to just translate and release Destiny Remake, Destiny 2, and Rebirth, even digitally at this point because we've gotten everything except those games and maybe Tempest in some form or fashion at this point. Plus, I have been morbidly curious about playing Rebirth for probably the last decade

crestorias plot and writing seem good and its a shame its in crestoria,a nd i say this as someone who has multiple gacha games i actually do like also honestly, no need to be 'morbidly curious' about rebirth, its just legitimately a good game. the character writing can be a bit hoaky and its understanding of racism is pretty facile but it does a great job actually managing the plot and characters and giving everyone a decent amount of focus and stuff to do, and combat's decent.
|
# ? Dec 22, 2020 02:35 |

Yeah that's pretty much Rebirth. It's unfortunate that every time anyone tries to really say anything about racism it comes out laughable at best, especially when they start going really hard on it towards the end, but every other part of the game is legitimately good. The character interactions are fantastic, the part of the game where you're going from town to town works on an episodic adventure level, and the combat is super interesting. I think Annie sums up all the strong and weak parts of the game best at once. Her conflicted relationship with Eugene is really well-handled, especially since Eugene himself is such a well-realized character, right up until the exact second she goes "and that's why I hate all gajma!"
|
# ? Dec 22, 2020 03:03 |

honestly i think the racism stuff would be fine if they just kept it to lowkey misunderstanding/distrust but its very 'thank you for solving racism forever, bamco'. tbf its hardly the only tales game with that problem
|
# ? Dec 22, 2020 03:20 |

Lloyd's grand quest to end racism forever has his best friend culminate their character arc with a speech that can be summed up as "gently caress humans, but Lloyd is one of the good ones."

# ? Dec 22, 2020 03:35 |

Yeah Rebirth's racism is still infinitely better than Symphonia where the oppressed race also has a secret cabal that controls the world which is how all the racism against them gets justified. It's still got a strain of "how easily fighting for equality can become fighting for supremacy," but... ehhhh. Caphi fucked around with this message at 03:49 on Dec 22, 2020 |

I've heard a lot of people in the past particularly rag on Rebirth for stuff like Racism Dragon using his "racist energy wave" across the planet and "Tales of Racism" But what really got me wanting to play it was watching probably the first 30 minutes to an hour 10+ years back and seeing that Veigue, Eugene, and Mao were... actually pretty interesting characters even with dodgy subtitles, the gameplay looked fun, and everything else was fine. And also jumping head without context, the Four Stars looks like a fun as hell antagonist group

# ? Dec 22, 2020 03:49 |

We'll get Zero/Azure Kiseki in English before we get Destiny Remake or Rebirth. Which is a shame because Destiny Remake and Rebirth both look fun as gently caress

the racism dragon is stupid but its not like rebirth is the first jrpg to have a dumb final boss edit: Also yeah, the four stars are pretty cool. Probably the second or third best miniboss squad in the series? granted once you get past the top 3 or 4 you're left with the loving grand cardinals

I never understood why there was this vast militant sort of empire of half elves in symphonia because there is like one elven town that's sort of a floating ruin, they don't like everyone else and generally speaking they acted as though they lacked both the interest and energy to gently caress.
