Star Trek is a utopia, so Xmas music was banned. Sadly the holiday itself was lost in the destruction of Mariah Carey.

I was trying to think of anything involving earth religion in star trek and sort of came up blank.

My earliest memories of star trek are maybe a little specific but this dad brought his sons I will cleverly call Rod and Todd over to my house and we watched TNG. Early season 1. It was confusing and bad but it was bland and it was white and it was heterosexual. I can only imagine him a couple years later covering both of their eyes. Star trek is dead to us.

Never mind the socialism.

Such a confusing show.

TOS had a lot of references to Christianity and stuff in it, though I imagine it was due to NBC interference since Roddenberry was pretty rabidly anti-theist.

This is funny because the entire plot of Alien would barely be notable in star trek.

"Long range sensors show the ship is full of eggs in stasis" :ms:

"Oh he poked it and it attacked him? Eh just beam the thing off his face."

"Oh there's an alien on the ship? Scan for it and beam it into space"

not star trek but i like how babylon 5 handled religion. it had an episode where you learn about a bunch of the shows main non human cast customs and religions then ended the episode by having a line around the space ship of various religious people to tell the ambassadors about their earth religion and it ran through 4 or 5 of them before panning out to show the endless line. irc it had a couple eastern religions a made up religion and a pan christian religion for the ones they showed the ambassadors.

Considering the "Native American" advisor they got for Voyager was of Eastern European Jewish ancestry on both sides of his family, no, I'm not going to give any benefit of the doubt to Star Trek for proper representation.

Seriously, he was exposed in the early 80s, but for whatever reason, that was ignored or never came to light a decade later when they hired him.

The Star Trek actor did get a bunch of hate mail for 'not being Native American' and then even more when he responded to the first batch with "I'm Mestizo, and the U.S. isn't the only part of America."

Voyager is by far the best Star Trek but some of the Chakotay episodes were horrid. The boxing one especially stands out.

It's more fun if you imagine Chikotay is just blasted drunk and loving with the rest of the crew during those episodes.

Or that's how I like to imagine it.

The end of the Rome planet as they're leaving, "they're not talking about worshiping the Sun... it was the Son of God!". And then occasional people calling Spock being a demon because of his pointed ears. While Roddenberry had pretty much intended for humanity to have progressed beyond religion the same as racism and other things he saw as modern shortcomings, a lot of the writers didn't seem to get the memo. And of course Roddenberry didn't really see sexism as something we'd need to evolve beyond, since that was seemingly still rampant in the 23rd century.

And then of course DS9 is all about religion, just not an Earth one.
