For exclusively downhill racing, raw horsepower doesn't matter nearly as much as these other attributes that let a good driver carry speed through corners where a heavier, more powerful car would have to brake harder and longer. It's also because Keiichi Tsuchiya drove a AE86, and Takumi is very very loosely based on him.

Yeah, I’ve been slowly reworking my way through the series recently via the dub so I guess I forgot what the original sounded like (I just assumed some generic game announcer took over when they showed her). Well cool that they’re doing this but I really would prefer another anime series. Out of curiosity, did Tales of the Rays get an English release? And if so, is it any good?
