You're so close to getting it. Allow me to illuminate. You're right, in that capitalism almost certainly cannot survive with a bitcoin-based financial system. Have you considered the possibility that perhaps it was never meant to?

One thing is certain: Bitcoin is a financial singularity. Once we cross the event horizon (hyperbitcoinization), there is no going back. Capitalism as we know it will soon come to an end. This was going to happen with or without Bitcoin, but is greatly accelerated by the more or less arbitrary redistribution of all wealth, which has already begun.

What comes next, I can't say. As I see it, there are two possibilities: Crpyto-socialism, and crypto-fascism/feudalism. Many bitcoiners seem to be pining for the latter, a trend I find rather disturbing. I pray we arrive at the former, with minimal bloodshed. I'll do everything in my limited power to ensure that we do. That said, I have accumulated over 200 BTC to ensure the survival of my loved ones and myself in any eventuality.

The fixed-supply breaks all the normal incentives. Money doesn't flow very well within a system which overwhelmingly incentivizes holding onto it.

More importantly, do you think people will tolerate a capitalism which, ostensibly based on random luck (of who bought in vs. who didn't), has redistributed massive quantities of wealth? If you think things are bad now, wait until people realize just how little control the masters of the financial universe truly have.

It will be the final nail in the coffin for capitalism. The utter and total de-legitimization of the system.

I've read this several times and the only thing I can read it as is
1) because reasons, everyone will switch from the current currencies, which have a massive wealth inequality, to bitcoin, which also has a massive wealth inequality
2) everyone who is doing real bad under the current massive wealth inequality will go "huh, my eyes have been opened to the downsides of massive wealth inequality because bitcoin's economy is somehow even stupider than the current global economy"
3) magic happens
4) everyone is still using bitcoin but also it's fixed now

It's less about the perspective of those who are already doing bad in the current system, and more about the perspectives of those who are currently doing okay to very good, who will see their wealth evaporate before their eyes. This is not a scenario capitalism can survive.

The "magic" is that perception is reality.

lol @ the idea that anyone thinks capitalism is "random". the folks with money think they earned it, a lot of poor people agree, and some folks think they stole it. nobody thinks it's about luck.

This is precisely the point I've been trying to make. Right now, most people believe in the legitimacy of the system because they buy into the meritocracy myth. Bitcoin's financial singularity will utterly crush that illusion.

So assuming bitcoin does destroy all existing currencies, what happens after we switch from an economic system where 1% of the population controls 99% of the wealth to one where 0.01% of the population controls 99.99% of the wealth, and how is this good for bitcoin?

That's a bit of an exaggeration regarding bitcoin's wealth distribution, but I'll ignore it because it's moot. You're missing the forest for the trees. If capitalism is over, do you really think I'm worrying about what's good for bitcoin?
