tfw you start watching yawara again and feel vaguely like youve seen everything before but cant be too sure because of the cyclical nature of yawara, before realizing an hour later that youre like 15 episodes behind where you left off

Harems are boring. The best things people collect in anime are cooking recipes and swords. Im sure someone somewhere has even combined the two.

I wish the Yawara manga were completely translated. The anime drags out the non-judo elements a bit much. And seeing judo techniques lovingly rendered by Naoki Urasawa is a real treat

Ok, this is a vague one. About 20 years ago I caught some episodes of a presumably short lived series that I just can't find any info on. From what I remember it was your standard high school romance stuff, centering on two sisters. It was probably from the 80's, and I think I read somewhere it was considered "risque" by portraying relations/people as they were, instead of the usual anime drama. So, not much to go on. I do remember one scene where the younger sister got one of those love letters in her locker, and worrying if it could be from a girl (it was a standard nice guy). A thousand possible boring shows in other words. But! The reason I'm looking for it is that it had a catchy theme song that somehow stuck with me, it was heavy on the drums and had the name "Margaret" [sp] in the bridge. Total shot in the dark, but has anyone an idea of what show this was?

It's true, since the harem referred to the place where Muslim concubines and wives lived; Therefore, it was a forbidden place. I think "harem" referring to the women is a relatively recent development, but I'm not sure.

Space Flower posted:i'd rather you explain why it apparently should not make sense They are just so diametrically opposed as works and stories. Arete and In This Corner of the World are basically both about non-violence and the importance of ordinary people's lives as they try and cope in horrible circumstances, being both fairly slow paced stories with fairly "cute" art styles, focused on ordinary actions like cooking, sewing, stuff like that. In both the highest virtues are imagination and compassion. Black Lagoon is an action series about kicking rear end.
