The linked article says he reinked everything to "make it more like what he was going for." But I don't know anything about comic books, so you could be right. Either way it still looks stupid. Just less stupid.

Yeah, I don't disagree about your last part they're both still bad. But yeah with digital art in particular the colorist is just getting digitals of the penciling and layering color on top, they can really alter the image to a large degree, not that they should.

OK, maybe I'm just not understanding it then. I thought the artist turned in the drawings, the colorist didn't fill in the colors correctly, and then the artist redid everything to make it look better. I just figured coloring in comics was pretty much a paint by numbers thing.

This kind of misconception is why people think inkers "just trace" pencils and colorists just "paint by numbers" when, in fact, you actually need three skilled artists who each understand and are capable of the entire process of producing art but are, for that job, specializing on a specific task in order to speed up production. This misconception is common even among amateurs who want to get into comics. It sure as hell is common among the public. That situation, where the penciller had to go and fix the digital version's fuckups made by the inker and the colorist, are the result of a mismatch in skill level between the artists involved in the process. However you feel about American cape comic art, you can't deny that the print version's linework and coloring are more confident and less sloppy.
