The real problem is going to be making sure Latinos actually get decent representation. In 2010 they packed us all into the 4th so that we only got one congressman. The state maps are as bad, Latinos are about 25% of the state and we have 9 state reps in a house of 118. Of course, loving Mike Madigan is in a seat that should be held by a Latino, too.

Didn't realize we had our worst COVID death day yesterday at 238. Looks to be a consequence of our worst single day case day on 11/6. Going to be a really bad month or so, as opposed to just regular bad. The case rate and positivity rate is trickling down, but still really high. Bed capacity for most of the state seems to be hovering around the 20% mark. If things kept up like they were at the beginning of November we would've been in some serious trouble.

Aren't death counts delayed by up to a month? I thought that's the number of new deaths reported yesterday, not necessarily that 238 people died yesterday.

Yes, that's how many are reported, so I shouldn't really be assuming it's exact, but it also matches up with being 4 weeks right after our highest case day, and deaths have typically been happening about 4 weeks after infection, so it times out right. This is all just one data point anyways, we'll see what happens over the next week.
