If any one of those three problems is immediately solved it will make handling the other two a lot easier. Somebody boring and competent sounds fine. I don't see this administration getting a second term much less planning on it. Biden was picked because he was boring. The trick now is keeping the pressure up instead of just being fine with a president and an administration that is not pants on head crazy.

Sometimes quiet professionals are better than bombastic blowhards, for example, the last four years. Honestly, it's going to come down to if they go on a hiring spree (they will) or not. Supposedly a lot of career people have hung on in foreign posts but if Trump won re-election I could see those number dwindling even more.

Also I'd bet money that Trump is declaring for 2024 the instant he officially loses a second term, if only to keep pulling in campaign money. I don't want this to happen, but it's going to happen. We're never getting a moment's rest until the Big Mac grease finally stops his heart.

Would the republicans run the man who lost Georgia of all places and headed the Republican party as the house was taken away? or would they end up having to bow before the Maga elements of the party? I'd be fine with him running again if we get to see Ted Cruz and Mitt Romney having to phone bank for him again.

https://twitter.com/ddiamond/status/1330715357775007744?s=20 So, background, today I drove to CLT to spend ~3 minutes with a TSA Officer so they could take my digital fingerprints and nothing more for the renewal of my Global Entry application that I started in January. Trip report, seeing the amount of cars in long term parking, daily parking was full, and hourly was very full, travel is close to back to pre-levels. I had to go through the Arrivals baggage area to get to the CBP offices and it was full of people. We will keep letting people die until a vaccine arrive. Honestly, I thought that since it too so long for appointments to finally be available to finish up GE that numbers would be down but why should I think anyone in America is going to give a gently caress about our fellow neighbors

It's kind of horrifying just how bad Thanksgiving and Christmas could be. We're already well into a massive upswing, Thanksgiving travel will only sharpen it, and the full-scope of the consequences might not be readily apparent until people are walking out the door to travel for Christmas. Though at this point I'm not sure those who will be doing so could be convinced by anything short of the incapacitation or death of them or a member of their household. It's like watching as somebody joyfully and obliviously winds up a hammer blow against their own skull. There are ICUs across the country are already at or near capacity. Unless there's way more asymptomatic immune folks than previously thought, it's conceivable that folks switch back from "way too complacent" to "batshit panicked" in the next few months as deaths spike precipitously. If you're heading to Knox, good luck. I have a 27 mile commute whenever I'm not working remotely. Edit: don't be like me. Look now. Some realters have virtual tours they can take you on, and any wait list you might be on could get under control. If you don't mind on-post housing, contact the base's housing office, see what your options are, and get on that list now.
