I remember exactly one scene of Mighty Max, and it's where a villain hyper evolves himself until he no longer has a physical body. No idea at all why that's what stuck.

I think I remember a weird talking owl who was Max's mentor or something? And at the last episode almost all the major characters loving died.

Virgil Norman was voiced by Richard Moll. And the last episode was the only one I remember because they got all these supposed bad asses like it was ragnarok and they all proceeded to get killed off screen so Max could...go back in time and start over  I think of that episode every winter solstice.
